What did you do in the garden today?

We're still under many inches of snow and cold right now, so nothing outside in my garden today. Instead I took some time to sort out my seed packets. I sorted them by planting (indoor transplant starting) date and bundled them with rubber bands.
I also have a bad cold/flu/something that's making working hard. I wish I had some goldenseal root tea or something to help, but I don't. So I gotta make due with what I've got... Good ol' generic day/nyquil liquigels and chamomile. :p I really wanna get my seeds starting stuff together but I really feel terrible.
Hope you feel well enough to play with your seeds soon!:hugs

Oh man--sorry you've got the crud!

Sooo, I'm going to try a couple of new things this spring. Baker/Rare Seeds has a bunch of South American nightshade family seeds that apparently taste like fruit. My mom got me a gift certificate (yay Mom!) to there, so I'm going to experiment. Naranjilla and one other whose name escapes me right now. Also the atomic grape tomatoes on the cover of the catalog. They're pretty, hope they're also tasty!

@deepbluesea are you getting those tomatoes, then??? I saw they had mixed reviews. Many people said they were hard to grow and a few say they don't have the colors advertised, and some said they grew fine and were pretty but tasted bland.
I really wanted some but felt unsure and they didn't exist in my usual supplier so I didn't get any (though they were on my xmas list). Please let me know how they are for you! They look so cool and I am very interested in them!

Yes, I'm getting them! I saw the reviews as well, but I've gotta try. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm hoping they're both tasty and pretty. Also that they'll set fruit in our hot-and-humid-as-hell summers.

Are you feeling better? Hope so.

Very exciting! I look forward to hearing how they turn out for you! It sounds to me like it's just an inconsistent cultivar right now that needs some work. Since it's open pollinated, maybe you can try to develop it more yourself.

Unfortunately, I am feeling rather worse. :( Last year I caught pneumonia and it leaves one susceptible to all kinds of nasty shmutz. I'm starting to get the same symptoms I had last year (painful coughing, blood in the mucus) so tomorrow I am off to see a doctor before it gets any worse. They're going to want chest x-rays. I'm always grateful for my govt./taxpayer funded healthcare during times like these. It lets me be able to just up and see someone before it gets out of hand. I get a little spooked thinking about coughing up blood and not being able to go see someone for it. :T

Shoot! I'm sorry. And yes, get thee to a doc. Coughing up blood calls for a little medical attention. Good for you for the health insurance! My org. (a smallish non-profit) just decided to give us health insurance this year, which is a pretty big deal. I've been paying for my own, so it's like a raise!

I'm pretty happy saving seeds and refining it to my climate/microclimate over a few years. I've done that with a cherry tomato; it's super delicious and now very productive. This the fourth year of selecting.

Going to start some seed this weekend. Not sure what yet, still not organized, but my hands WILL get dirty before Monday!

I used to see a bit of blood after coughing when i was in HS. I can't recall seeing a doctor much growing up. I think looking back that i had walking pneumonia a number of times. I still went to gym class, running around half dressed in those short uniforms. Its a wonder i survived.
