What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks @Wee Farmer Sarah !
I don’t think toads eat plants. Just bugs but I guess I could be wrong. 🤷‍♀️
Today I go over to my friend’s house to help take down the rest of her greenhouse. Just waiting for the phone call that her 5 and 6 year olds are awake. 😁
My brothers and I already agreed not to tell Mom about all the problems with the move. Her “things” have always been really important to her and there is no sense getting her upset. Today is the day my Queen cell(s) are supposed to hatch ( in the bee hive). I hope all goes well with that and the mating flight( in a few days or a week?). Anyway I hope my bee hive gets a great Queen!
You’re right about the toads. I “googled” it and apparently they are good to have in the garden. Most likely a chipmunk. Thank you so much @Acre4Me. I’ve got nearly 12 inches of dirt and some straw on the potatoes right now. I just may add a bit more. This is my first experience with potatoes so it helps to learn from those with experience.

Great idea on the freezing @WthrLady, I bet the would have made it soooo much easier! Not sure on the grind, I used the meat from my cow, it seems like a finer grind that what I'd get in the store.
I picked up a few packs last weeks that were almost paste they were so finely ground. They cooked up just fine and normal though.

I'm so sorry the moving process was such a mess. It sounds to me like you kept your cool better than I could have. And I think you are right about not telling your mom about the ugly details.
Just fed the tomatoes , squash , cucumbers , melons , and potatoes . Wax Beans are about a week and a half away from harvest . The reinforcement wire tomato cages are working out well , lots of green tomatoes . The Super Sauce tomatoes seem more vigorous and have almost double the flowers/fruit than the Amish Paste at this point , time will tell.
Your garden has me in awe, that is just gorgeous!

This is our first try with potatoes too and I can't wait to start digging into the beds. The tops are starting to die back (hopefully like they're supposed to) so we should find out before too long how we did.

Cleaned the coop this morning and put some fake eggs in the nest boxes (way too early but why not) and the flock was both horrified and fascinated. Just about to start the mowing. Went fishing yesterday and we caught a mess of perch (mostly fertilizer size), a couple of trout and a nice 21" coho salmon! DP also took a cool video of an osprey picking up one of the fish we'd tossed out for it. I'll ask her to post it on youtube and I'll link it here later.

Have a great day everyone!

I pruned tomato plants, force pollinated tomato flowers (this has been working well this year, nearly every flower has developed into a green tomato in the last week), picked a small handfull of green beans.

Question on squash/zucchini - I don't seem to be getting any female flowers, have atleast 8-10 male flowers per plant and more buds. Has been this way for a couple of weeks. Am i being impatient or is there something else i can do?

@Sueby was it the burger jerky you thought was not worth it that you like or another kind? Is it the second recipe you just posted this AM?

Also, I do the same thing with dead bugs. "Here's what's coming to YOU! Feelin' lucky, punk?"

@penny1960, did you smash the eggs into your hair for a quick deep-conditioning? ;)

It must be admitted, @WthrLady: That sounds kind of miserable. :/ What about making some Hay Makers' Punch instead of drinking the Gatorade? Can't stomach that stuff myself.

@karenerwin Oh my goodness. What an awful day! So sorry to read about it—though I'm glad your Hubby still went out to eat with you. I hope that helped a bit. Please excuse me for missing why you could not choose the moving company? What kind of crazy is that? They sound all kinds of negligent and careless. I'd be ticked off too.

Good luck with the chicks, @Acre4Me. Sorry to hear about the bugs. :(

Beautiful garden, @adirondak5!

@NewBoots, that sounds like a really good day fishing. Fresh trout is delish.

I'd say good morning but I came in from a few hours in the garden hours ago. ;) Made some supports using small branches from the woods for the bachelor's buttons & coreopsis (I think that's what it is), as they insist on continuing to fall over. Gave the veggies a quick drink (tomorrow is deep-watering day). And what's this?

"I just bloomed this morning, and I'M GORGEOUS!"

*squeal*

This daylily ("Crushed Candy") was a $2 Sad Plant Rack jewel! I've been waiting for almost a year to see her bloom and it was absolutely worth it.

Closer (but less sun-kissed) look:

People can knock daylilies all they want, but I love them.

I also sowed some more marigold & zinnia seeds that we'd picked up while getting something else at Ace H'ware last night. Try, try again...! Threw some more dill seeds into the bed, too.

After that some part or another of breakfast made me sick (!), so I had to kind of take it easy the rest of the day. Probably a good thing, ultimately, since we have a very busy few days ahead of us here. Read about chickens (of course), took care of lightweight things (I'm not good at resting even when ill). Happily, I'm feeling a little better. Hubby has threatened to run into town for a ginger ale, but I'm hoping the kombucha takes care of things. :)

Happy gardening all! Love all the photos.

Welcome to the thread! The issue with your squash seems to be going around.

I was a good kid, got the mowing done then laid out the plain soaker hoses for most of the trees and shrubs. Helped DP get her quaking aspen planted, mulched and soaked thoroughly. Did the raised beds and deck watering. As a reward I get to post cool stuff:

It's one I took some root cuttings from our old house and moved here.

Bee Balm, took a long time to bloom but worth it:

A mock orange that we had in a pot for a few years at the old place and never got it in the ground. Planted it in February and it's very happy:
