What did you do in the garden today?

Morning all. Love the chick pics! They are so darn cute. Maybe some day...

Just gave the girls some save a chick, another hot humid day, this is getting redic. I don't know what happened to a nice 80 degree summer day.

Pulled the garlic this am, it's tiny but I knew it was going to be, its mom was tiny too but it was the only clove left at the store last fall. I ordered some better garlic from High Mowing for fall. I ordered a garden sprayer, I can't spray enough with a squirt bottle so the cukes are all almost gone. I guess I give. The bugs have moved onto the squash now but they're so big it's gonna take a while to make a dent!

I have tomatoes turning colors! Yay! Both the brandy boys & the san marz are turning. Won't be long now, can't wait to have my first BLT. :drool

@NewBoots how was dinner?

& I agree that tomato looks like a split from too much water, then a critter chomp.

Good morning all . No deer in the garden last night thankfully . Picked a few zucchini and a yellow squash and cucumber this morn .

Also picked the first ripe Super Sauce tomato , its not one of the bigger ones but a pretty good size . The kids will devour it later today . Yesterday we picked a ripe Amish Paste tomato they just had to sample , they said it was delicious .

I would say next week or shortly after I'll be making sauce , lots of tomatoes should be ripening at or around the same time . Have a great day everybody .

Good morning gardeners. I sure am running late today. I slept in just a wee bit this morning. It's already blasted hot and humid. Turned the AC units on at 8:30 am. Did the morning walk around the garden. The tomatoes look fine for now. I only picked maybe 4 beans. I'm thinking they are done finally. I also picked a cucumber and 2 jalapenos. And finally saw a few butternut squash developing. Yay! We are supposed to get scattered showers today. Hopefully that will cool things down a bit. Hoping for a cool morning to get some weed whacking done and maybe try to plant some chard. It's just too hot for me to do any hard work outside for now. I suspect over watering and a hungry little mammal / likely a chipmunk that is tasting your tomatoes @MrLeeHo. I pick my tomatoes before they are fully ripened and that seemed to cut down on the number of tomatoes my little yard critters were tasting. I haven't found a really good deterrent for the chipmunks yet. Siracha works for a day or two, but if you get it on the leaves it can burn them a bit. My okra plants are blooming again. Hopefully I'll get some more okra soon. Peppers seemed to be doing well this year. It's nice after last year's miserable harvest. I need to start freezing them. Have a great day everyone.

Just getting flowers on my san marzanos, but the black cherries will be ready to start picking in a week or so. And the zuc boats were delicious! I only used one zuc but it was good sized and with the pulp, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and a store bought tomato added, there was enough filling for the two halves plus a spare ramekin, so we filled our "boats" twice! So glad to have another good way to use the zucchini. Still going to add some crushed fennel next time but the recipe can be changed in a million ways to suit your tastes and what's left to use up in the fridge.

And that reminds me, the store tomatoes I used had sprouting seeds in them. What the heck does that mean though? I think I've only seen it in the "tomatoes on the vine" packaged ones and it looks weird but doesn't seem to affect the taste. Has anyone had home grown tomatoes do that?

Watering and critters have been seen to, time for some tea, chicken board, and comics. :)

Seeds maturing inside tomatoes, interesting.

Afternoon all. I need to pop out into the garden. It's too windy to spray, and it's going to rain the next two days. My greenbeans should be up, so I'll look.

Mustard pods are getting nice and fat.

NIce out today, but spent the morning making and canning sloppy joe for the winter.
Tomorrow I'll can up quarts of fiesta chicken soups.

Rest of this afternoon will be sewing.
