What did you do in the garden today?

She is beautiful! Give her some pets from me!
I house-and-dog-sat for my SIL this week. They have a beagle puppy and he is adorable! He is a trouble maker, but a lot of fun to play with/watch play, and snuggle with. Of course, I am now house-and-puppy-sitting for my brother in a few weeks! All these puppies appearing in my life are supposed to help me not want one so bad (until we have our own place and can get one), but they do just the opposite! I mean, seriously, LOOK AT THIS FACE!

Adorable :love

Good morning gardeners. I was outside before the sun came up today working on my pile of chips. I've found a log and 3 drink containers in it so far. This was before

This is after today

I'm spreading it pretty thick in the yard but I'm pretty sure there will be a good amount left to cover the compost pile with as well.

I removed the protection from some shrubs in the xeriscape area so we'll see if the chickens leave them alone. Right now only the two Nn girls go out there at all because Cuckoo has been busy with chicks. Now it's time for some indoor chores for a while. Have a great day everyone!

Ok, I haven't caught up here yet, been a busy morning. But so far...
Morning All!

Ooh, tell me more, please? What kind of mouthwash, and how much do you dilute it? I didn't have bad powdery mildew last autumn, but I usually do, so a new approach is worth having.
I have Listerine so thats what I use. 1/3 mouthwash, rest water. It works really well! This squash was covered yesterday:

@WthrLady so awesome you rescued an older dog, can't wait to see pics! You've prolly posted em but I haven't caught up yet. Older dogs are the best. :love

Been busy baking, 6 loaves of squash bread & lots of bagels, all low carb.

Did some work on the fence, cleaned up in the garden, fertilized & watered & now I have to clean up the kitchen.

Such an awesome weather day today!

Have a great long weekend, we all deserve it!

@igorsMistress, that looks great! I love wood chips, if gives everything such a nice finished look and still informal. Mine had a lot of leaves in it so we let it age a few months to make sure any aspergillus was gone before we used it in the chicken run. It's in the bottom of all the raised beds and in the isles between them, we use it in any holes we dig for new shrubs and trees (our "soil" is sand and rocks), some gets dumped in the chicken run about once a month, and we even put some in any over-sized pots to act as drainage and to keep the actual soil from running out the holes.

They told him he had been coming nightly for over a MONTH!:lau
I totally believe this, beagles will always follow their noses and their noses have a hot line to their stomachs. We had a female beagle when I was a kid and keeping her at a proper weight with 4 kids willing to slip her treats was impossible. Her happiest days though, were when my dad took her hunting pheasants or cottontails. She'd come home exhausted and collapse in her bed and so so happy. And your girl has such a lovely gentle look. She so reminds me of our Babe. Your family is lucky to have her and she is lucky to have such a good home. @Swiss, that is a sweet pup. Beagles are some of the cutest puppys there are. OMG @penny1960, I can't imagine and I'm glad. :) @Sueby thanks for the listerine tip (I put it in my note book), that squash looks great now. What a beautiful dahlia and she is a red hen!

Just about done cleaning up the greenhouse deck. I picked all the cherry tomatoes green to ripe, the greens will go to pickles and the ripe and nearly ripe are on the table to get ripe for drying. I've learned not to put pots too close to the greenhouse walls, it just gets to hot and cooks nearly everything except for the marigolds, they loved it. All the peppers and basil in gallon pots are going into the compost, the tomatoes look like the are either badly stressed or have a virus so will go in the burn barrel just in case. I packed too much too close and it made watering effectively nearly impossible, live and learn.

It looks like it's 2 of the 3 Swedish flower hens that are still laying thin shelled eggs. No more treats for the hens until those shells firm up, except kale, that stuff is loaded with calcium and vitamins. DP is already suggesting we freezer camp them and hatch some marans but we have plenty of time, and they are laying at least. Besides I think she was kidding, she's always ready to hatch more chicks, and any excuse will do. :) I'm not keen on integrating new birds so patience it is.

Not done in the garden yet and it isn't lunch time so out for now. Everyone enjoy your long weekend!

@penny1960 ugh! Sorry about the explosion but glad you're back in operation. Today is day 10 for my eggs, going to candle them shortly. So far 11/15 are still in the incubator. @NewBoots thank you! I really like the way they look as well. The hay gave it all uniformity but the wood chips are more pleasing to the eye I think. My batch has mesquite in it so not using it in my gardens other than the xeriscape area. I agree patience with chickens is a good thing. @Sueby thanks for the listerine tip for powdery mildew, and Red is a lovely lady.
