What did you do in the garden today?

First frost Monday. First snowflakes Tuesday (yesterday). First hard freeze and ice in the chickens' waterers today. Compress the fall season into 3 days!

I need to get the extension cord and heated waterer out.

This weekend will be the last of the garden chores: putting straw on the strawberries. Then onto raking leaves (some of which will go on the garden), and getting my "green fix" in the green house.

25F here right now... garden is all up but the remaining Jerusalem artichokes, kale, brussel sprouts and parsnips along with a few small celery plants. The celery might be mush now. The rest is fairly cold hardy so should be alright.

Had to edit. I have the strawberries out there too. Putting straw on them later today probably and bringing the two potted ones in for the winter. Should I put then in the unheated 3 season room or in the heated garage? I believe they are Jewel variety, but cannot recall for certain.

Another edit, apparently we are going back into the 50s and 60s the rest of the week. Mother Nature is having hot flashes again...

Picked as much out of the garden as possible last night and put in paper bag with banana to ripen. Processed and vacuum sealed another 800g peppers for fermentation. Still have the bag of tomatoes to deal with this week
How long are you leaving peppers in the vacuum sealed bags? And are you adding 3% salt by weight?

Morning all. We got a slight frost, my car had it on the windows, but all the plants look fine. Hopefully we get a better shot tonight!

So they didn't put out a frost or freeze warning for us because the weather people deemed the growing season over on Nov 1. I've never seen that before. :idunno

I'm a fan of the old and the new. I just bought a 2008 Dakota pickup today. Lol. Our minivan is a 2020 though bought brand new. I just prefer to put miles on a used vehicle and need to get rid of the 2002 malibu I've been driving for 5 years. The pickup will also allow me to pickup larger and messier items (i.e. bales of straw, mulch, dirt, etc.) and pull a trailer if necessary.
Funny you say that. He actually bought two trucks. A 2018 Ram 2500 because he actually HAD to for his job, and a 2000 F350 manual 7.3 diesel for enjoyment.

It rained last night and is supposed to drizzle throughout today as well, no watering for me. Yeah!

We drive a bunch of old(er) cars/trucks around here too. We have a lot of vehicles here & try to take care of them, neither of us wants a car payment. & in all honesty I'm not a huge fan of all the new stuff the cars have - especially when they shut off at a stop sign! I'm just old. :gig

Usually one wont be issued after the 1st one. Have you already had one freeze/frost?
Although to have a cutoff date is odd, it's not unheard of.

So my local weather guy thinks it's weird too & I heard the weather guy on the news mention the same last night:
