What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon all. It’s dark and dreary here today. We’ve had a little rain today but nothing major, I’m still not going out there today. I saw a seed catalog earlier in the mail, but haven’t checked it out yet. I’ve been looking at Native Seed Search though, they sell heirloom seeds from local/desert sources that perform well in our environment. I love that place! Anyway, time to get dinner going, have a great night!

I'd love to start a window garden this spring. Tomatoes, peas, green beans. Problem is, I have a black thumb, LOL! Any tips for the budding indoor gardener? :D.
I only grow ornamentals indoors. I've grown herbs before with success too. Tomatoes need a lot of light and most get quite large for indoors. Bush type peas and green beans might work. Lettuce is likely to be successful because it will like the temps and lower amounts of light indoors.

Good morning gardeners. Hopefully we're done with the ice for a few days. Good to hear you are making steady improvements in your recovery @jerryse. No gardening to do outside. However, with 11 chickens in the run I may actually have to rake up some of their composting poo. There's plenty of room for them and several roosting places but just like the coop, there's a lot of poo going on. So it will be on it's way to the garden this afternoon. I'm nearly done with my garden plan for the Spring. I've decided to plant just a few sweet potato plants in the little round garden bed. I have a tall shepherd's hook in there and will train the vines up on that as I've done in the past with beans and peas. I'm planning on putting rutabagas, carrots and onions in bags on the garden platform I will be building in the backyard. I want to plant as many carrots as possible. I still have some in my refrigerator crisper from my second planting. They're still so much better than what you get at the grocery store this time of year. I'm in the process of adopting a new family member. A young terrier mix. Fingers crossed and it all works out. It took some time to find a dog that is just the right size for the Wee Farm. Of course he has to be small, but not tiny. A few of the turkeys that grew up in my neighborhood made a visit yesterday. They were so close that I could tell they were the juveniles that paraded through the yard this past summer. Very sweet. Have a great day everyone and stay healthy.

I'll likely try herbs then. I so rarely shop for them and it'd be nice having some fresh leaves!

Garden Plans for this week - seed shopping.

But, have been not doing a thing in the garden for awhile. The bathroom remodel is progressing. Electric newly done and a few problems corrected. New high powered fans installed and vented outside (2 new holes in side of the house so they vent outside). Electric Inspector signed off. Plumbing: new main water lines installed under house - previously only 1/2" pipe supplied the whole house, now we are at 3/4" with 1/2' supply lines to the individual things - all copper. All new vent pipes installed per building codes, and all new PVC drain and septic pipes installed throughout most of the house - this time PVC Primer was used, along with glue bc unfortunately the previous stuff was never primed, and literally fell apart as they were down there beginning to work!! luckily it was always the plan to replace it anyway. Plumbing inspector signed off. Insulation tacked up in the ceiling, bracing installed for any future grab bars and for towel bars.

Today: DRYWALL!! yay! not sure if it will all get up today, as it is going to be tight - these are bathrooms, so space isn't huge and open like a bedroom. So, still dusty here and vacuuming daily. We only have one working bathroom at this point, so we are getting tired of all sharing one bathroom!

Nice big ceiling vent fan - this is in half bath. Similar in the whole bath just behind.

First cuts - in front of the new doorway we cut for the whole bath.

Hopefully soon, I'll have pics of seeds for 2022!

We also need to decide on which chicks we will be ordering for 2022.

Aren't some of the things you come across remodeling amazing.
We were replacing a sink from the 50s, bright bubblegum pink, and the drain pipe, n u bend, was literally just shoved into a larger pipe coming up from the sub-floor, no connection no seal, surprised we didn't all die from septic gasses.

No gardening today. Current temp is 9'F at 10am, winds blowing, windchill is well below 0.
I did get the Territorial Seed catalog yesterday, nothing but chubby, french carrots got my attention.
They're meant for heavier soils. Hmmmm. Maybe.
