Well, I mowed down my overgrown lawn, most of it anyway. There's one section over the septic drainfield, maybe 100' x 20' that I'm definitely (I think) going to let do it's thing all summer and fall.
After I finished mowing, I saw all that green, fibrous vegetable matter and thought "dang, I grew that. Not gonna let it go to waste". I raked up a 15 gallon storage container full of the grass and weeds and threw it in my compost area. I have a bunch of chicken-poopy fir shavings down there that need to be mixed with some greenery.
I have pallets. I should build an official composting area down there. I have enough garden hose to reach it so it should work.
Chickens got another free range period. Still not ranging out very far. I learned that I can herd chickens. I have a little branch that gives just enough gentle persuasion to direct them right back into the run when it's time. Good to know I have some control. For now, anyway.
