What did you do in the garden today?

We have like 3 shop vacs a hoover and a dyson I thing I am good.
I was a master groomer years.
Sill have dog dryer, table clippers and such.
We also have a Dyson and a shop vac. The dust bunnies in our house could literally be mistaken for real bunnies... And I have forbidden DD from bathing the dogs in the house anymore because she clogs the shower drain every single time. 😂 We have a big wash tub next to the hose by the barn. However it does look like we slaughtered a bunch of kittens afterwards because of the giant wet clumps of hair all over the yard. 🙄

I have a client that if I don’t vacuum everyday it will clog from dog hair - some short haired dog that sheds more than any animal should

Only got a total of 1/2 inch of rain from yesterday and overnight. The storm is tracking a little more west of me now so maybe another half inch overnight tonight. No garden plans today unless we get enough dry breaks in the showers. I’m a bit sore from digging potatoes and picking beans yesterday so I’ll be taking it a little easier today.

Guess what? 😊 our first eggs!

Do you think these are lady bug eggs?

Visiting a relative in MD. Decided to drive early Thursday, to avoid the main rains from Debby. There was rain, not too bad, but in the mountains of Western MD, there was some DENSE fog - very little visibility at times, even at 10, 11am. Arrived in good time, stopped by a farm market for a few fresh items (yum). Now dealing with the usual issue at this house: the room I stay in must have something amiss with the vents. The room is really hot (always has been), bc of morning sun and nothing much coming out of the vents. So, talked relative into lowering a/c to 75 (instead of the 77, 78 it was set at), and slept with 3 fans running. Drinking instant coffee now, eating apple pie from farm market.

Debby arrived after I did, we watched the rain while eating dinner out. From light rain to sheeting rain, and repeat. I’m somewhere in this clump of rain totals:

Maybe 2.5” -I’d say mostly from7pm on, and no rain falling when I got up. But I don’t think it’s done yet.

No gardening for me…just trying to talk relative into replacing Venetian blinds that have deteriorated and broke. Stubborn relative doesn’t want to buy more-some are 15yo, so they are just old and strings are breaking, but some are “new” replaced in last 1-2 years and already broke- yes, that does tend to happen when you put the absolute cheapest blind in a full sun window. It looks a bit like bad renters live here - some wildly hanging blinds…so wish me luck in my persuasion skills. We ate a good dinner last night, so hopefully relative in a good and generous mood today - generous towards Venetian blinds anyway.

In a nod to all the old/new appliance talk, there has been a lot of that talk here with window coverings. “When we put in shades in that house, they never gave us a bit of trouble”. Me: yes, but you bought those roll shades 50 or so years ago- things aren’t made the same …at all, so please don’t buy roll shades (So many reasons not to use those in the area the Venetian blinds are breaking)

Garden and plant aspect: it is always nice to drive around here bc it is a wetter area, much more green and lush overall than where I live. The restaurant we went to was one that moved their main entrance about 25 years ago, and planted trees along the new long driveway. Hadn’t been here for quite sometime, but this time it was great- the trees were completely overarching the drive all the way in…a nice effect!

I'm like your relative.
Been saving all my life, spending is difficult. Making decisions is difficult too.

things should last anyway 😂 shame we are a disposable society and fill the landfill with such things.

I agree- makes me mad when things break or really useless things get made for short term use (figit toys as one example -they covered the landscape for about 9 months…now where are they: cluttering up a house, or in a landfill). The cheap blinds should not be breaking in under 2 years. I can understand the 15 yo ones - UV degrades things and 15 years for strings exposed to light isn’t surprising they are breaking, but less than 2 years is bad.

I understand the cost too- it adds up. This relative bought this home new about 15 years ago. So, had to buy blinds for ALL the windows at once. Understandably bought cheaper ones. I always figured they would buy some drapes or other things over the years…but, no, just the V blinds. So, there is nothing to compensate for the failed blinds bc there is nothing on the windows but these failed blinds….all have not failed..but easy to see the trajectory.

Decisions: They like their ideas best (don’t we all). But, hard to introduce a new/alternate idea. Oh well, wish me luck, I’m here a few more days.

We had cheap vinyl blinds that lasted until we got Debbie 🤣 about 3 years ago. I found used wooden blinds at Habitat for Humanity, they might be faux wood, but nice. I found two for my bedroom, and one for the back door, woo! I needed to replace the living room blinds too, found some new at Lowe's. Even on sale the faux wood blinds I purchased are like thick cardboard and overpriced for the material. Ick.
