What did you do in the garden today?

Canning day today. 14 half pints plus 3 pints of bread and butter pickles, and 7 pints of raw pack green beans that were picked this morning. I cut the beans into short 1 inch sections thinking smaller pieces would pack into the jars better. I was out in the garden in the dark at 5am this morning picking cukes for the pickles too. Long, long day.

I wonder if sulfur would work. It works in the dust bath for chickens mites

I dunno. I planted with a bunch of sulfur. But I doubt it was enough to effect mites....

Thanks that's a great article. It's amazing how many times I read to use cheap vodka as a sterilizer and I have it on hand for that. Tastes terrible though

Thanks! I made that one in school shop class around 50 years ago, and copied the shape from a pig board that my uncle made for my grandma, most likely in the 1940s.

All 24 of the jars I canned sealed nicely, Kerr, Ball and Walmart lids. Got 'em labeled, put some in the pantry and trying to figure out where I'm going to put the rest of them. I think I'm going to have to build some shelves somewhere.

Yeah, great info. Thanks! I'm going to try it when I plant garlic next month.

Those garlic cloves in the article are huge! Mine are nowhere near that size.
