What did you do in the garden today?

It took me a while to catch up on this thread. Our weather has been nice, low to mid 70’s during the day and 50’s at night. Although very dry. I’m still getting green beans every other day. The bok choy I planted in the big garden is doing well. The lettuce is growing slowly. My summer squash are blooming and I have a yellow crook neck developing. I think I need to put some fertilizer down. I have 6 SM tomatoes approaching ripening size and 2 more babies growing. My tomato harvest has been quite sad this season. The peach harvest is over. Unfortunately I lost a lot to bruising but I’m happy with what I could salvage. I put up 15 1/2 pint jars of peach jam, 7 1/2 pints of slices and 1 1/2 pounds of frozen slices. So not too bad. I picked my gala apples. I have some that may be bug free, fingers crossed. The others I can turn into applesauce from what I can salvage. This harvest was a surprise and I couldn’t spray them. Next year should be better. I feel like I’m finally about over this sinus infection or whatever it was. Most of the fruit and pickles people can is simple water bath canning @Eagle343. Easy way to get into it. I know Ball used to have a website with good information. You don’t need a pressure. I have a Ball canning book with easy to understand directions.

Got a grandma and aunts, and a few uncles that did the whole canning run I just need the pressure canner and the know how.
You don't have to have a pressure canner. A boiling water bath is the recommended method for for lots of things.

The Ball website is still around. Lots of recipes too.

DW has been working on my nerves for 2 days over materials and delivery for a project late next week. Finally got it ordered to her satisfaction. Then see started in on they can't get a semi down our road. It is not likely to come on a semi from Home Depot. I am at my wits end. I am ready to say sit there and complain while I make it happen. :idunno

My McMurray Red star chicks arrived today. It was shipped on the 15th of September, and I received them on the 16th at 1 pm. I got 7 males and 8 females on a straight run order of 15. They started eating and running around as soon as I placed them in their play pen. I pre-ordered them in the early part of the year because September was the closes month that had them available. The hens are supposed to lay 360 extra-large brown eggs a year. This is my first time raising high production egg layers. I read that they don't live as long as dual purpose birds.

How did they get to you that quick? Where were they shipped from?

Deck is DONE. They were so nice.
The roof is DONE.
The siding is DONE except for touch up paint, a new collar trim for the gas exhaust, and the trim around the shop building that is on order. Tomorrow is my first contractor free day in 6 weeks. OMG.

The mosquitoes are insane. The DEET doesn't even phase them. For them it's a seasoning. We even have those huge west Nile ones. I mowed for 5 hours today and am down a pint of blood. So persistent.

The coop and run is done for the season except for the new electrics.

When I had a lot of lumber delivered from home depot it came on a semi. Twice. Second time I made them drop the load at the top of my driveway and use a skid to bring it down cuz their driver was horrible the first time. Took out a huge cedar tree trying to back up, sheesh!

Well maybe she is right. They did not say. It is 4 pallets of rock wool insulation. Should not need a semi-IMO. :idunno
