Yesterday I delivered eggs to Kalaheo on my motorcycle Boo. The delivery fee I was given, 4 avocados and 2 mangosteen.
I'm having a simple rack made for the back of Boo so I can mount a basket or crate to do egg deliveries. That with homemade recycled bags... feeling pretty happy about my egg selling scene and carbon footprint.
The heated waterer is 3 gallons, so it weighs 25# full. I've gotten to carrying 3 x gallon jugs of water out there, then filling it, and lose About a quart just turning it back over. It doesn't look like any more freezing temps anytime soon, but my automatic fill nipple bucket is not auto fill at the moment, since the supply pipe cracked during the freeze and I had to turn off the water until DH can fix the pipe. At least I don't have turn the bucket over, and I can fill that from the top. My hands/upper body strength are sometimes not strong enough to handle things well anymore.I use 1 gallon too. I just use a lot of them![]()
Both our cats eat real and fake needles. And I totally know what you mean about the mess afterwardsOur inside cat eats the Fake pine needles! My brand new tree we got at Thanksgiving already has naked branches cuz of her...not to mention the mess she makes from ot afterwards![]()
Your daughter was sooo lucky it didn't puncture her windscreen. Her radiator was bad enough!Gotta luv chickens!
We do a fake tree, but the one year my oldest was driving behind a truck moving dead Xmas trees and one flew off and punched through her radiator. She brought it home after they got it pulled out and made the most delightful smelling wood chips out of it. Wish hubby was willing to do real trees. Bet they make wonderful perches.
I need to get back off the sugar too. Just DH to help me get through sugarloaf mountain...Cleaned out the smaller coop, totally changing the shavings..Why is it that they all of a sudden get interested in the discarded bedding that I throw into their run? As if there are magically appearing treats, or something. Nice thing is that the rain held off until I was done. Nice to have tolerable temps. Gave them pineapple skins to peck off the leftover flesh in them. Nice and sweet treat.
5 eggs today. Getting leftovers eaten up from Christmas, including the desserts. So glad I have 3 grown sons who are helping eat the desserts, especially. My friend made me a tres leches cake, and I'm glad I didn't have to eat all of it myself. Now, to get back off of sugar. Made some lovely French toast this morning with the Challah bread I had leftover as well.
Bries has such remarkable color. So much fun guessing at color genetics. Time will tell, for sure. Wonder if she ended up with 2 recessive white genes? I have one that did, and has a speck of gray here and there. (No other white chickens as a parent)Trying to decide if this babies a splash. It's the first baby born white thats kept so much white so far. All the other pale chicks grew up full colored. With the blue genes, I know I should be getting some splash birds...but I haven't had any that are clearly splash so far. Curious what you guys think.
Was hoping to get pictures of him moving around but he said cuddles were more important.

He really doesn't look very splash to me but he's definitely very different from my other birds ands from a blue/blue breeding. These guys change color like crazy as they grow so no idea what he'll look like down the road, but so far all the birds have a pretty uniform look.
Bries his dad.View attachment 3361866
Brie as a cockerel. View attachment 3361874
Brie as a chick. Usually their first feathers are all wild type brown and the white feathers come later with reds coming in last. Blue and black show up between the white and the reds. And the white increases a lot over time.View attachment 3361875
I don't seem to have a pic of his mom but could get one tomorrow. She's a silvery blue with heavy mottling ands my palest hen...but no feather edging on either parent I think. I'll have to look closer tomorrow. I brought him in to look closer at him and now half the nights gone and I still don't know what I'm seeing!![]()
