What do you like/dislike about Game Chickens

yea iam aware of there past and what not, I Have several pens to keep the roos seperate. I just love the way the roo looks, and the hen isnt to far behind either. Good looking birds I can say.

I love the looks of Games, I am all for the athletic "prehistoric" looking type.

I haven't got any adults yet, but I love the character/attitude on the young ones I have right now. I have got Saipans and Malays and I read they hatch tame, but I did not believe it was this true.

Esspecially the Sais are very tame, I got 8 of them, 6 pullets and 2 cockerals, I am not allowed to sit down in their enclosure unless I want all 6 girls to occupy my lap and shoulders. I can sit in there for 2 hrs straight and they will not move and just take a nap and let me handle them however I want without a fuss(usually being all relaxed with the eyes closed and preening me back if I gently scratch them with a finger).
The Malays are tame and curious but just are not as mellow as the Sais when it comes to just "hanging out" or "chillin" on my lap.

The roos are all still getting along and are super mellow, but they are only a month and a half old. They will bud-in a if there is a fight between 2 other birds of their 75 head(lots of dif. breeds) flock though (my leghorn cockerals are getting a bit cocky with one another and bud heads many times) and break it up. The girls don't really care.

From what I have been told I should never take out any of the hens later on, they will get along if they grew up together but that bond is broken as soon as a hen is removed for only a couple of hours. Does anyone have experience on that?
If not I guess We'll see, I will probably have 2 seperate breeding groups of each breed anyhow that will never be reunited once seperate.

Going to be interesting to see if Oriental games are my thing. Am totally in love with them now, we'll see if its gonna change when they are grown(I doubt it though).

My mother(although she does not like the looks) is enchanted with the characters too so far, reminds her of the fighting dog breeds, easy to handle and wonderful and friendly towards people(she's a dog person and loves pit bulls etc from the character).
They better be friendly when they are fully grown, nothing worse then having a 2-3 foot 10 lbs chicken not cooperating.

Anyhow, I guess anyone can tell I really like'em so far, so I I will stop rambling now,

Anna

Yes, I love them also. I grew up in the south and thats what I was raised around. I think the roos are just beautiful. I really enjoy the colors that the males have. The hens are just sweet and very smart. Right now I have a game rooster (Frank) and he is free ranging with my laying hens. He is a good daddy too.

First off, there is game, and there is game. lol True gamefowl are some of the smartest, most beautiful birds in my opinion, but a lot of people just don't understand what is a game bird, and a modern, or a sumatra isn't game. As to keeping more than one hen together in a pen, it is not that hard to do. Hens are gamey too, but usually won't take it to the level where one gets killed. Now don't get me wrong, they can be vicious towards new hens, but if you have a good rooster, he will keep them in line. Eventually the hens will accept each other except in rare cases. Now, the orientals, I love them myself too, but they are a whole different kind of game than american games. Some breeds can live together somewhat if they have been raised together, but don't count on it. One good rain may lose you some birds if you have stags together. The best rule of thumb for games is to keep roosters separate as soon as they show any signs of aggression, period. As to separating hens, they are the same as americans, if you have to separate them for a day or more, they will have to duke it out again, but as I stated earlier, a good rooster will keep it under control. I love gamefowl. i have 10 roosters, i love keeping and showing them, hen are great.. i could take about gamecocks al day, and i have many bloodlines as of now

I really like the way the games look. They are athletic and simply beautiful. I really like their character and I LOVE the hens.

What I don't like about them. The roosters are soo beautiful, but I don't want to have to keep the roos in individual cages or tethered seperately. Just can't admire them as well when they are stuck in cages by themselves.

I would much rather have my Sumatra cocks all roaming the green yard together.

I like everything about my games

They are beautiful, intelligent, alert, certainly never dull, hardy, fantastic foragers, and excellent parents. I like that they come in so many colors and I especially love the arrogant way the roosters stand watch over their flocks. I can live with keeping the roosters all seperate. I actually find a lot of the docile breeds challenging - they seem so boring and lifeless I have a hard time bonding with them unless they are super friendly or absolutely adorable.
