What do you think of the new BYC platform?

I'm 50/50...I like the new features but I don't like that everything looks crowded...especially with those ads. Are they really necessary? Aren't the GFM and the PPM enough? There's just so much going on. Anyway, maybe if the sidebar was moved so that the threads could have more space (like the previous forum platform) then I would like it. This is just my opinion.

EDIT- I really do think there's too much going on. I cannot focus on what I'm reading with all the 'reviews' on the side and the size of the post (the length was reduced so now all posts look like everyone wrote paragraphs.)

I guess I didn't realize that the My page was disappearing.

Can any of the staff or moderators send me a photo shoot of my page. It was a very brief narrative and photos on our shipping eggs process Please.

I described how we wrapped eggs in there and it was helpful for others shipping eggs....It was an easy way to see how we did that - complete with brief narrative and photos. I shared it with a lot of members who shipped and also listed it in my listings....

I will just make it another documents and try to attach content to interested folks..

I would appreciate it!

Just like going home for me. Sorry, but it's how I feel and that's the purpose of this feedback thread.

I realize the expanded membership required a new platform, but I was raised with the "if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it" mindset that would have been much more comfortable with a platform that closely mirrored the old one in both form and function.

Good luck and have fun if you decide to stay! I'll check back in now and then to see what changes might have been implemented in response to the negative comments.

You can have more than one browser on any computer. You can download Chrome and have blazing fast BYC and still use your old browser to do your work. They aren't mutually exclusive!

 

Having features is fine IF your computer hardware can handle them.  Not all of us have super-speedy comptuers or are on super-speedy networks or have tons of RAM. 

I can't upgrade my browser.  If I do, the software I use for my job will not work.  I think a lot of people are experiencing that.  Also, some of us have 2 and 3 and 4 year-old computers that just don't have the guts that ther new ones do.  I don't think a lot of thought went into what the members are using for hardware before doing this upgrade.  Like Mahonri and others, I am going to be here much less frequently and doing a lot less on the site. 

Anybody been to Happy Hen House (an alterative chicken forum)?  I was there a couple of times last year... it's a lot simpler to use than this!  (But not as much fun as BYC people LOL.)

And I agree... I see no reason now to upgrade to a Platinum membership.  If it's still this slow come July when it's time for us to re-up our GFM, probably won't be doing that, either. 

I am practically in tears over this... BYC will probably not even be part of my daily routine before too long.  It's UNUSABLY slow.

 

That's what I did. I am using Google Chrome for BYC and my old browser for work.

I was like you. I almost tore my eyeballs out until I dowloaded Chrome. It did make a difference. Try that. I know how you feel.

If you can't upgrade your browser, consider adding another to browse BYC. Chrome doesn't use much space or stuff on your computer and it's the fastest browser for this platform. I currently have Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Maxthon browsers all downloaded on my computer...and no it's not a supercharged computer.

I have Chrome and it's still slow. I read someone said to download Chrome 16. Are there updates or different versions of Chrome? I just downloaded it 1 week ago, so I would think I have the most recent version.

It was Broke. If we would have maintained the old platform into the Spring season it would have Crashed and then we would have lost a massive amount of content.

I just compared Facebooks white to craigslists white and to ebays white-- On my Monitor BYCs was the least birght white of them all. I can see the gray signature lines perfect as well.....
but i dont have any "conditions" and I have 20/20...

maybe the headaches are from the stress of learning to navigate a new style forum?

Can't speak for everyone, but mine are from a brain tumor and multiple strokes. Many people have eye issues or other health issues that something so bright trggers and trust me it's painful. I very very rarely use FB because of the migraines it gives me.

I like the site better than I did the first day. Although I thought it was kind of cool I still have no idea where most things are located, but I hope to find them. I had both sites open when we were in the sandbox. The fact that this site was so much brighter most have been something that being able to go back and forth with kept me from noticing. But I do like this site. I think it's a cool place. I can find the posts I want to read easier whe it move the curser over the ..... and not have to go through each and every chunk to get though 1000 pages.


There is a perk here people. I can come in and read and post and then I need to walk away. I might actually start getting other things done around here.

I think I read where they were going to try and do something different with the auction pages later on. Does anyone have any idea of when that might happen? I do think that is one of the biggest issues of things lost.

OK I changed my brightness on my monitor, but that doesn't cut it. Any other ideas?? I mean we might as well work them out together until everyone is comfortable.

Most of the things people are having a problem with are things you can do in your profile. Maybe go in and mess with it a little bit and figure out what is going to twork for you. I wish I was fast enough on here to explain things before they already get posted, but I'm not. Had the same problem on the old site and it wasn't the site there either, it was me.
