It's not you. Dogs can be frustrating sometimes. And as ShrekDawg said the are still puppies. I didn't trust Chase hardly at all until he was 3-3.5. Now I let him off leash on walks and he runs all around the street and is everywhere. But as soon as a car comes he is back to heel. It takes time.

Nah, sometimes dogs just go through phases. Especially puppies. Oakley is still a puppy. Technically Willow is too. They don’t really fully mature until at least 2, usually more like 3 for most dogs. For giant breeds and goofy breeds like retrievers, it can be closer to 4-5. so just keep at it.

Also, even the best trained dogs often seem to “forget” everything around age two and need to be retrained lol so yeah

Oh and dogs also go through adolescence that lasts anywhere from like 6 months to 18 ish months. Sometimes it starts at 4-5 months and goes to 24 months even, depends on the dog. Sometimes yeah. There’s that too.
