What Dog Breed Do You Want Today!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

A female German shepherd with the traditional saddle coloring. A big stocky one ❤️
What are your thoughts on German Shepherds? Have you had them before? I've been dogless for a couple of years now, and I keep thinking of German Shepherds. But I've heard they are hard to train, or I guess need to be trained, so not like standard house dog training. I don't know much about them.

Id start by looking around for a ethical breeder that can guide you. German Shepherds are big working dogs. And though they can be amazimg, it takes a lot of training and time. I would go for a show line, more grooming but less drive. If you do get one id sign up for classes with a trainer, A certified trainer. Who can guide you through everything. German shepherds are know for reactivity if not trained and socialized correctly(not meeting everyone and everything, being neutral.) I know of a nice german shepherd with correct breeding and training this pup is amazing. Then i know one who isnt very well bred, you can see it in her coat and hips. Though she looks like a German Shepherd, from the time they got her she was nervous.

Had one as a kid. They are great dogs but are what I consider a lot of dog. They are big, they shed a lot, they can be aggressive, they also can be shy aggressive. I've seen a lot of them down at my vets. People are getting pulled around, and they have to wait outside with them. They can have issues if not raised correctly. To me they are for an experienced owner. I have never gone back to the breed for many reasons, but if I did I would expect to do a lot of training, and I would make sure my home owners insurance covers them. I would also make sure to get pet insurance as they are known for hip problems.

Also good post.

They can be great dogs with training. I would not say training them is hard, but they might be a handful for a softer person. In fact I believe German shepherds posses the natural drives needed to be very easily trained. Just need to know what you’re doing.
