What happens to baby roos?

Since my chickens are pets, it doesn't matter to me what gender they are. I have never bought sexed chicks, instead hatching, buying straight run, or even saving a few roosters people didn't want. I keep all of my roosters except one in a rooster-only flock.

Here is the definition of "SPRING CHICKEN" a young male chicken that is still young enough to have tender flesh. Now you can all get into sustainable agriculture and dress out your surplus cockerels. By doing so you will be right up there with "Free Rang and Heritage Chickens."

I could never kill my own. I give them to a man who claims to free range. But I have a feeling he does at first. And then kills them for meat. It’s sad but there is no way I could (or anyone) keep all the roosters they hatch. There are typically more than hens and that would hurt the hens and not be a good life for you roosters-or your pocketbook. If they aren’t going to live a happy healthy life, then it would be better to give them potential in another way.
Are you sure? Many people keep bachelor flocks for any extra roosters they hatch...

I eat most while relatively young. Still have a lot reach maturity as can best be evaluated for use as broodstock then. The breeding stock are breeding stock although I do stay on good terms with them. Others are outright pets.

Lots of people can't have roosters. I specifically purchased 4 females as pets and for eggs. It's possible I have 2 males and I do not like being in this position. I'm pretty determined that they won't become dinner.

My hens usually live to a ripe old age. And a few good roosters do too. But I can't begin to keep all the roosters I end up with since I hatch chicks to raise and sell. But I always try to find homes for male chicks that I think will be good ones. Most of my customers want started pullets. So when they buy the pullets I will give them a rooster or two free. Most of my customers are country people who enjoy getting a free rooster.
But it's hard to find homes for all of them. So sadly a lot of really nice roosters have gone into the freezer. But they have a really good life before that happens. :th

Some can afford to feed non productive birds....some cannot.

My dad won’t let me. He is paying for the food (for now) and he doesn’t want extras. If it was up to me, I’d have a bajillion roosters.
I was just saying that it's not true that no one can keep all the roosters they hatch. :)
