I originally ordered my chicks from Ideal. out of 20 chicks I originally ordered I have 15 left. All were susposed to be pullets. 2 were killed by a predator, 2 died ? cause and 1 turned out to be a roo and I rehomed him. Last summer I ordered 25 from Townline hatchery in Michigan. All are healthy and all are pullets...

I suggest finding a local farmer or hatchery. My 3 years daughter loves going to our local hatchery. We have been there so many times the farmer lets her help feed and collect eggs. He has a good selection of chickens, turkeys, ducks, pea fowl, pheasants and doves. If you haven't decided on what you want, going locally you get to see what they look like when they are grown. Also going locally is cheaper, chicks $1 to $2 per st run chick and no shipping. I had to go to 3 different breeders to get what i wanted. I bought more chicks because they were st run, but I spent less than $30 compared to ordering what I wanted from My Pet Chicken($80).

I would try to find a hatchery thats close to you. I went with Mt. Healthy hatchery, they're about 2 hrs away, and I've head really good things about them. You can also look locally for folks with chicks for sale.

We've always bought from MT Healthy with all three off our orders and have been very happy with what we have gotten. they're located just outside Cincinnati and we live just outside of Columbus so we just drive down to pick them up. Always have had healthy chicks and excellent customer service.
