What have I done!? Meyer's just called - END OF STORY ON PAGE 11

that sucks! cant they do anything to find them? poor chicks

I just called Meyer's. As far as food and water goes it's not critical until tomorrow but their heat pack apparently only stays really warm for the first 24 hours so really since there were only 5 chicks the heat pack was probably already starting to not be of much use yesterday.

It seemed like such a good combo: heat pack and overnight shipping!

Texas Chick, I've been following your story. I hope everything turns out for the best. I can't believe the post office wouldn't have your babies to you yet. What good is the overnight shipping if they can't deliver what they promise? I know I'd be giving the PO and Murray's you know what by the time they were one day late.

OMG I just read through the stressful and agnozing wait you're going through and I feel like I'm about to have a panic attack! I'm so sorry about all of this. What a nightmare. It's too bad they didn't pack a portable GPS unit in the box with the chicks - sometimes I get so frustrated with shipping through any company these days.

PLEASE KEEP US POSTED!

Oh, gosh, I'm sorry. This is terrible. I live in the town that Ideal drops all its chicks off at before sending them out to the rest of the country, so your story is making me want to tell my SO he is not allowed to ever get a job in another town, just in case I ever want to order more chicks . . . I'd hate to be on pins and needles about something like this.
I hope you get your happy ending.

I just ordered my chicks today from Meyers. They will be ready on the 9th. I am going to forget about the post office handling them, im driving up to get them. It will be a 7 hour trip there and back but it will be worth it knowing that they are in my care and not the post office...waiting and hoping. Will they eat and drink their first day? And if I am getting 10 hens can you only have one rooster? I keep worring that my rooster may die someday and I wont have a back up rooster. I only ordered one thinking 2 might fight.

Okay so is there anything you guys can suggest that will improve the chances of the survivors if I can get to them tomorrow?

My drive is about 45 minutes home from the post office. I was thinking of taking a warm water bottle (the rubber kind with me) wrapped in fleece for them to sit on and warm up a bit?
Pointless? Dangerous? Maybe useful?

I have GroGel powder ready to be mixed. Should I take some warm water with me and mix it in the car so they can have some on the car ride home? Or wait till they're home because another hour won't make much difference then?

For those just tuning in now: I am hoping to get 5 chicks from the post office. They were supposed to ship overnight with heat packs but by now have been in transit for 3 days and the heat pack was only meant to last 24 hours - no packing peanuts.

Of course the brooder has been ready, heat lamp has been on all week and temps seem perfect, etc.

so are they at the post office right now?
i thought that if you paid for special delivery that they sent them to your house..like ups or something.
