Well, I suddenly feel extremely self-conscious, lol...
If you haven't finished Lucky's story, please continue it... Steven is still updating and it is truly an awesome journey...

Scrape the top of it a bit, see if it is gunky stuff, sensitive or super solid... I would prepare ahead of time and get some blood stop first though, just in case... along with gauze to tape over if needed... trim the feathers directly around it so you have clear space...

A bit of blood might happen, yes, but more than a few drops is what I would be careful of...

I would start with pressing down gently around it and try working it up and out, see how it goes... warm, wet compress on it first might help...

As for how to proceed, see how it goes first... get plenty of pics as you go to reassess as needed...

Just fyi, pus in poultry/waterfowl goes hard, not liquidy like with mammals... it can be cheesy to super hard... yellowish/whitish in color...

Diva brought up a great point, Pekins are also more prone to deficiency and/or leg issues... sprain or bad bruise may be the issue though and with the cold fronts a simple bump could hurt like crazy... are you using epsom salts in her PT baths? It really does help, from what my ducks tell me, lol...

Looks like a “feather follicle cyst”. (Google images and have a look.) I’d pick it, myself. It would probably bleed a bit, but maybe not since it appears to be old, and kind of dried up.

*** UPDATE TIME ***

Alright so all seems to be going well. Realized after a few days that OG was standing... all the time. So I got to watching her long term, when able, and was able to watch the sadness that was her attempts to sit. She’d gingerly squat and no sooner than the underside/curve of her breasts hit the ground she stood back up and shook her head (literally, I kid you not). She would turn around and try different spots to plop and, sadly, it was all same result. I felt bad for her; she had no clue that it wasn’t her spot on the ground but her poor birdie boobies themselves. I felt guilty because at least when she had the gaping holes of hell, she was fine and pain free. Just had to remind myself that this would pass. Well, today I found her actually sitting! I mean it’s been 6 days of her standing (even when sleeping) but at least, it seems, she plops down occasionally at least.

Her follow up appt is Monday and that’ll hopefully be the last of this saga story.

But! In the meantime, I bumbled my way through a YouTube video. I shall share the links below. Pardon the sniffles; being out in the Indiana cool wind and hunkered over catching tiny little fish, I seemed to have gotten my sinuses flowing (stupid) so just ignore the sniffsniffhuffsniffsniff

It’s my first video, okay? Learning curve :p

Watch OG and Patty eat some fish. There’s 22 various small fish from our pond.

P.S. I have to teach Patty how to be a pond duck like OG.

Oh! And wanted to add that I caught Patty trying to break OG free from her jail. So stinking cute. She was checking for “weak spots” (ducky version of casing the joint) for hours one day. Now she just walks right up to the door when I look out there and she looks at me as if she’s saying “can we discuss the trading of hostages?” Like it’s seriously bugging her.

I feel bad for both of them but I’m just reminding myself and the ducks that it’s temporary and for the best.

Aww so sweet.:love How is OG doing behaving herself?

She’s alright. Suffered a broken toenail on day 2 of the setup I have. Presumably because I was over her and bringing the pooper scooper towards her cage (because she’d never spazzed like that since or prior) and she like pulled some ninja moves and made it halfway up the Teflon green wrapping stuff. I’m the process she broke one of her toenails behind the bloodline and was bleeding. Looked terrible (blood + sand = panic) so I ran and grabbed the KwikStop and as-much-as-she-would-let-me, I held her and applied to the toenail. It stopped, no bleeding since and no signs of a limp or anything. I just know I sat outside and boohoo’d that it happened. I’m blaming PMS and sticking to it.

She’s been pretty good/normal otherwise. In fact, since she’s been home from vet, she’s had a lot LESS griping about my presence. I *want* to be flattered and think she’s just less peeves with me, but I know better. I think her chest just hurts and she’s not wasting effort on full-on-beeching :p

Ordered ducklings yesterday and so now I’m all spazzed out myself. I am building a coop this weekend and have been finishing off replacing the top of their run with that green Teflon material and now I’m feeling completely duck scared/insecure.

OAN: ive given the girls some raisins, spinach/arugula mixed greens, some store bought duck treats (they’re amazing and I totally would eat them if I could... they smell divine) and gonna give them some peas this evening.

They’re getting such treats because I feel bad they’re separated lol.

Totally love those videos!:love After the fish banquet she simply cannot harbor any negative feelings toward you. She looks very happy.:D And the difference between the 2? That's one of my favorite things about birds - the are all individuals.

See... I’m thinking since Patty was born/raised on a farm with no ponds/pools, she has zero idea what to think about them or do with them. She won’t get into the pond even when OG did and she won’t eat the fish out of the bowl but would eat them as-is. She frequently is seen eating a huge bunch of food (few minutes of munching) before she gets any water whereas OG is so predictable in her two-bites-waddle-to-water-waddle-back-two-more-bites-rinse-and-repeat.

I’m thinking that, unlike flock mentality of eating and drinking together, she got the whole “kid with multiple siblings” thing where she Hoover’s her food worries she’s not going to get any.

Then again, I could be really overthinking it (applying humanoid logic to an animals’ instincts) and she’s simply different from OG.

Did i read that you were getting ducklings? How many and what kind?

I ordered 2 black Swedish and 2 Blue Swedish (all females), and (by my understanding) they should be here around April 3rd or 4th.

It was wild how I came about them; I was frumping that I had apparently messed up the process on how to order them. Someone here on BYC pointed out that the Swedish were available. I looked at them and really liked them too! And then once I read they are on the ‘watch’ category due to low(er) population numbers, I jumped on it.

With the Cayugas having a low population (I believe they’re beyond the ‘watch’ label if memory serves) I felt like there was an added benefit for loving their dark soulful selves. And now it seems the pretty babies I’m getting also needed a one-up in population.

Plus! Now I have Daffy Ducks (black Swedish) and Aflac Ducks :lau

I’m super excited but also super scared as this is my first time raising babies. I mean I’m only 4-5 months into adult duck ownership and look how THATS gone  LOL
