And the thing that “sucks” is I’m already finding myself doing Ducky math.

I still plan to get Cayugas (2 females) and I would LOVE to have 2 silvery Welsh Harlequin females.

That would be a total of 10 ducks.

So I’m holding off on the WH unless thy happen to just fall in my lap. I’ll ‘scale’ my ducky math back to settle at 8 once I get the Cayugas in May/June.

She’s alright. Suffered a broken toenail on day 2 of the setup I have. Presumably because I was over her and bringing the pooper scooper towards her cage (because she’d never spazzed like that since or prior) and she like pulled some ninja moves and made it halfway up the Teflon green wrapping stuff. I’m the process she broke one of her toenails behind the bloodline and was bleeding. Looked terrible (blood + sand = panic) so I ran and grabbed the KwikStop and as-much-as-she-would-let-me, I held her and applied to the toenail. It stopped, no bleeding since and no signs of a limp or anything. I just know I sat outside and boohoo’d that it happened. I’m blaming PMS and sticking to it.

She’s been pretty good/normal otherwise. In fact, since she’s been home from vet, she’s had a lot LESS griping about my presence. I *want* to be flattered and think she’s just less peeves with me, but I know better. I think her chest just hurts and she’s not wasting effort on full-on-beeching :p

Ordered ducklings yesterday and so now I’m all spazzed out myself. I am building a coop this weekend and have been finishing off replacing the top of their run with that green Teflon material and now I’m feeling completely duck scared/insecure.

OAN: ive given the girls some raisins, spinach/arugula mixed greens, some store bought duck treats (they’re amazing and I totally would eat them if I could... they smell divine) and gonna give them some peas this evening.

They’re getting such treats because I feel bad they’re separated lol.
I would be careful not to get the Teflon where it can get hot or heat up. The gas it makes when heated is fatal to birds. I’ve never used the green stuff you are talking about but maybe one of the other BYCers on this thread has experience with it.

OkY that’s terrifying: I indeed do have Teflon type green fencing but I am using it as the covering for their run. I’ve built the run with pvc piping and chicken wire. I had chicken wiring on top but it was snagging me and kiddos’ hair when we went in and then when we’d get untangled the stupid wiring was all bent and sometimes would droop. I figured the Teflon would be easier lol (it’s a 4’ run and we have crazy hair).

But! If it is problematic, I can change it to something else. They’re only in the run during the day, and we’re always home, so I can figure something else out. I’ve only gotten two strips of the green stuff hooked on so far so if it has to be removed then thankfully it’s not a whole bunch.

I have heard that it is the fumes produced by Teflon cookware when heated that is toxic to many birds. :)

edit I see this was already mentioned. If they can't eat it or inhale it, I don't think it's a problem.

I know that one is true. . wouldn't think the netting stuff could ever get hot enough to put off fumes. . but being as a cover for a run. . summer heat idk. :hmm
Being outside though. . that would probably be just fine.

Agree. :D

The chicken wire though, is not predator safe. Are they locked up on the porch at night?
Of concern now the naive little duckies are soon to arrive.:love
