How is she healing up??

Ah yes! I am sitting in a waiting room getting ready to lose my internet but I indeed was typing up an update post!

Might be a few because I also need to take some updated pics. Will have something this afternoon.

I genuinely appreciate that you all have stayed with me this long. ❤️❤️❤️

Alrighty guys, here’s the update:

I took her to her follow up yesterday and while the scabbing on her incision had decreased a bit, it still was not healing fully. The vet went ahead and removed the heavy scabbing and the remaining sutures. The area where the scabbing was the heaviest still had quite a bit of healing to go and it is still an open wound (albeit some progress has been made). So the vet, instead of going through and having another set of sutures put in, recommended that I return to the process of wiping the incision site with the Hibiclens wipes twice a day and applying the silver-something-or-another ointment thereafter. Optimistically, in about two or three weeks, it should be fully healed, or healed enough, that she can return to full ducky activity. In the meantime she is still restricted on getting wet so I still am keeping her in that little caged-off area I’ve created for her. Hopefully the incision site will heal without any further complications because the weather has started to become beautiful and duck friendly and I really am eager to get them outdoors. I have not given Patty any outdoor time because that would leave OG by herself in the back porch (in her pen area) and seeing as how those two squawk to high heaven‘s when separated, I figured it best to just leave them less stressed and wait it out.

The trip to the vet yesterday is another one for OG’s chronicles of hilarity;

my mother had an appointment scheduled with her MS/neurologist a couple hours after the duck appointment was set so I just went ahead and took Mom with me since there was no point in trying to justify six hours of back-and-forth travel. So this was the first time that OG had to be along for a car ride in the backseat. Well, wouldn’t you just know it, we got slammed with 5 inches of snow Sunday night going into Monday morning and so instead of taking my cute little gas saving hybrid car, I whipped out the Yukon. So I have my mom in the passenger seat and my duck in a tote squeezed between our seats so that I could still keep an eye on her (and she wouldn’t feel some sort of way and start trying to leap out of the tote like last time). My mom got the biggest enjoyment out of our Indiana travels yesterday. All said and done we had left the house at 7 AM and made it back to the house around 4 PM and OG did fantastic the entire time just hanging out with the girls listening to music and traveling all over Indiana LOL.

My mom says that her grand-ducky is the best behaved grand-ducky ever for car rides LOL

Our travels included us going to the vet first (1.5 hour drive) then me running into a Walmart for a couple of items while mom and the duck hung out in the truck and then traveling to the complete opposite side of Indianapolis for my mom‘s appointment (another 30 mins) where she and I both were telling the nurse and Dr. ‘we’ve got a duck to get back outdoors to, so let’s move this appointment along’ LOL (never fear, her tote has ventilation, she was in the center of the tinted SUV where she wasn’t exposed to sun and the weather was 40 degrees... I would’ve went back out and sat with her if mom’s appt had taken too long. I digress...) then I traveled 45 minutes further south to another county to pick up some things and then made the 2+ hours drive home where I had to have an intervening stop at a gas station for gas (I mean I was driving the Yukon clearly I need it petrol LOL), and then I stopped off at Rural King so that I could stock up on bedding for the ducklings that are arriving tomorrow.

OG was perfect the entire day of our travels. We would stop and get freshwater from various places along our way and she seemed completely content believe it or not. I think by the end of this boob-job journey, she might be quite the little pekin traveler!

I am now running to tractor supply 30 minutes before they close because I went back to refresh my memory on the food I need for the babies and what I had picked up was not the right stuff. I will be making a new post regarding the ducklings. I’m certain I could address the questions here in this post for purposes of brevity but I think it might be easier for others to see/review/search or otherwise be learned from if they didn’t have to search through a bazillion comments about OG’s dent of doom.
Her dimple of death.
Her breast of bewilderment... stop me, I could go on :p

And since her saga is not (technically) yet complete, this will continue to get updated until she is finally fully healed and back to Duckie freedom.

Here’s a video of her incision site as of 2 hours ago. The upper 1-2 inch of the incision is all but completely healed with only light flake scabs remaining and gentle pink new tissue. The spot where it’s the most unhealed is where the bigger of the two holes of hell were, and as the vet re-confirmed yesterday after suture removal, it is exactly on her breast bone.

No infection and nothing yet to cause worry, just delay. At least that’s what she’s telling me so far

Talk about duck cuddles! This is my babies all tuckered out from bathtime cuddling and snuggling while I catch up on threads!

Oh man I’m super jealous. I’ll get baby cuddles tomorrow, deities willing :fl

I’d called Metzer to make sure everything was on the up and up (I’ve not received an email stating they’d been shipped or anything so I got worried) and they said they should be at my post office, peeping their hearts’ desires, no later than tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow morning/afternoon I will be bringing home 2 female Blue Swedish and 2 female Black Swedish ducklings. And then again next Wednesday, I’ll be bringing home 2 female Cayuga ducklings :love

Soooo much duck lovings going on at this house. OG has started to ~for very brief periods of time~ allow me to pet her while she’s eating. Patty? Well it’s comical how she treats me but I know she’s growing to accept me since she will eat out of my hand now. I will continue to kindly, and patiently, force my love upon these girls :lau

BeeTeeDubs: nice arm ink. I’ve got “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” On my right inner forearm (Latin for who watches the watchmen/who guards the guards?) and then the punisher symbol on my left inner wrist. I have others but those (and depending on the weather, maybe the one on my clavicle) are the only ones visible so I have to give hoothoots to other inksters. :hugs

Another great installment of the Duck Cronicles - OG Style! :D

Another great installment of the Duck Cronicles - OG Style! :D

I’m actually *genuinely* bummed I didn’t get any pics of her in that ride. She looked (as per usual) so adorable sitting in her ducky tote, head popped up and in between my mom and I. She would “randomly” quack and it’d startle the snot out of my mom.

I’ve started learning her quack motives. For instance; when I was loading up the bedding (of which I got 10 bale packages because they were on sale for $4) I was opening and closing different doors loading up my purchase (and flower bulbs) she would quack when the door opened and as soon as I spoke, she’d quiet down. Rinse and repeat with each door and the back hatch.

I said she’s my guard duck!
