.... So, with you taking care of her and not hurting her, even though she doesn't like you messing with her, she shouldn't relate YOU with being shot, though, she may panic some the first few times she hears a shot, IF you haven't already been shooting around her.....

Thank you soooooooo much for the
Reassurance on her position. I know it may have sounded silly to some that I’m worried about her ‘mental health,’ but for the fact that i still intend to care for her as a pet and am actively working on building more and more trust with her. The timing with this situation totally sucked our progress right out :(

We’ve shot on property before but she was elsewhere safe. Most Certainly the noises from our mini arsenal were audible, however, she was nowhere near us nor in danger. And weve only practiced a couple of times so here’s hoping for minimal opinions out of her lol.

You might be right about the entry and exit wound theory... but wouldnt the skin around the holes and the area be scarred or a little ragged. Or at least look scarred as if they'd been burned because of the heat from the bullet?
My sister was 'accidentally' shot when she was 15, I remember the discussions on what did and could have happened.

I let the mud poop dry overnight, and I know that’s gross, but I know when I knock a plant over or soil/mud gets on carpet that it’s best to let it dry to prevent smearage. It didn’t fully dry like soil (surprising no one, it’s yucky ducky poopy) but it was definitely less water muddy the next day. Then I used peroxide to lift it and scrubbed with shout stain remover. Not a single iota of leftovers so I’m happy about that. That same poopy removing day, kiddo spilt some sort of red drink on the floor when I wasn’t home. She doused it with peroxide (which I do with most anything wet on carpets) and it helped but there’s a faint pink spot. So I might try some of these suggested cleaners to see if I can get the dye out.

Are y’all in cahoots to make me pouty jealous!? I’m just so in love with their cute little damned selves. Happen to live near indiana where I can come kidnap (ducknap?) some youngins sometime? I know @Ravynscroft has them too
But she’s like 6 hours away. Totally willing to make that drive though :: devious grin ::

I’m assuming you raised them from
Ducklings? Was there any particular thing you did that made them pro-hugs? Like I imagine imprinting makes a huge difference but I want to say I’ve seen posts that reference ducks’ general persona to be hands-off, irrespective of imprint. If I have to sing lullabies and bribe with peas, I completely will. I’m never too proud to beg ;p

God I want duck hugs. Well, I mean I sneak little hugs in on my two but they’re absolutely not a fan. No eyeballs being booped or skin dabbled but they’re abundantly obvious in their disproval.
:hugs so sorry this is stressing you and your duck out so much!
I hope the vet can do something for her and you to get this taken care of and off your mind. It does look to me like it's very possible she was shot at. :rant
And no. . it's not a conspiracy :lau
We just like to spread the ducky cuteness overload around:D
I'm in Missouri so I'm not in any closer range for duck napping :gig

My sister was 'accidentally' shot when she was 15, I remember the discussions on what did and could have happened.

My experience has been that it often depends on the caliber and type of bullet (defense rounds flower outwards upon hitting something whereas target ammo will punch through something and keep going), range from muzzle, location of entry/skin/health of the target, velocity, and other tiny factors. As far as why OG doesn’t have any of these I have absolutely zero idea. Because I’m just speculating on the source of the wounds, it could be that it isn’t even a bullet wound but a puncture wound from something else (though it’s be a whopper of something else lol).

A .25,.22 and pellet gun are all survivable ammo sizes (and very small small) so maybe (assuming for a second that it is a gun wound) it was a through and through but as time has passed, gunk getting involved, callusing of the skin, etc., it just stretched a teeny bit? The skin around the black plug of Plague isn’t irritated, swollen or infected. The feathers surrounding the big one are all gone (either by her own doing or maybe hardening of the skin).

Who knows. I suspect it’ll ultimately end up being unsolved unless the vet finds the stupid tiny bullet still in there (though it shouldn’t be in light of proposed exit wound).

Or maybe that hard part is still part of said impalement object and the ends just got broken off like one would an impaled Arrow.

And, for what it’s worth, sorry about your sister. Assuming the accidental part is questionable because of your quotes, I can imagine being angrier than a hornet whenever sister had a wound pain/stress after the fact. :(

Yeah, I’m TOTALLY putting all of my hopes and faith in the hands of the vet. Because the cream is doing absolutely nothing. Zero change whatsoever.

And I really think that’s what’s stressing me the most. Is that I’m stressing her out and it’s seemingly for naught.

If it weren’t for this, I’d just be stressing something else, so unfortunately that’s just who I am. But it bothers me more so when it’s one of my animals; they’re just so innocent.

Even though I HIGHLY suspect that her quacks are duck cussing.

My daughter hears it and tells her to watch her mouth LOL it’s cute.

And as for drive to Misery... sorry, Missouri, I would make it. Hubs was based in Fort Lost-in-the-woods (Leonardwood) and so between me and St. Louis, and his more westerly experiences, we can totally get lost with style :p

Maybe even a pellet gun? :idunno
We will probably never really know for sure.

And you’re right; unless there’s some written note in that cavern of crazy on her chest, likely never will know. I know I also question the proposed gun wound theory because all of the trash evidence (and a few stray bullet holes in various structures on the property), the gun goobers weren’t shooting small like a pellet gun but more along the lines of 9mm or .40.

Then again maybe they’d only use the small tiny weapon on ‘pest control’z

You know... because a flightless white duck is too much. (Sorry, my judgment is showing).

*sigh*

Something to hold us over during today while I make a vet appt *fingers crossed*

Here’s a pic of the two ducks refusing to go play in pond and, instead, stomping away in mud puddles. Also pictured is my big ol’ Rotten Rottie (spoilt). You can see just how NOT worried about the ducks he so far seems to be. It’s a good thing. I figured since he was a dog that he’d be all barkbarknibblenibble. Obviously he still won’t be unsupervised for quite a while but I’m pretty pleased with his behavior. He’s gone through obedience training and the VA ultimately wrote the paperwork for him to be husband Grumpy’s service dog. He failed the aggressive test when testing for disposition characteristics. He was forever (affectionately) known as the whimpy rottie. Poor guy... public expectations of ferocity turned immasculating.

Only ducks that i have seen refuse to go into a pond was after a couple flock mates were taken by snapping turtles. The others never went back in that water.

I wouldn’t blame them one bit. They know that the water is a source of danger and they’re keeping their cute little feathery behinds out of that mess.

These two have gone in it, they splash a bit, preen and then go right back to the puddles. OG stays in it considerably longer than Patty but I attribute that to OG living on that pond for so long. Where Patty came from, she just had a drinking source and not even a kiddie pool. So I invision (jokingly in my head) that Patty looks at that big ol’ pond and says “It’s a trap!”

I’m really thinking they’re just junkies for mud ;)

Appointment for OG is Thursday at 9:40. Pleased it wasn’t scheduled too far out.
