What in the heck?

A friend of mine sent me this picture of an egg she collected this morning. I’m as puzzled as she is as to what happened. There’s no signs of an egg being laid on top of the other eggs ie white/yolk. Anyone else have this happen?

Interesting, I have never seen that before! It definitely looks like it somehow got shelled twice. I found this other thread about the same phenomenon. https://www.backyardchickens.com/posts/24863080
 
It wasn't laid like that.
Chances are there was another egg, that was broken, mostly eaten and stomped on before the darker one was laid.
