Thank you all for this thread. It has been very helpful in learning about this breed. I just picked up 3 Sapphire Gems at TSC on Friday. So far I am loving their very sweet temperments. I was burned last spring with all roosters so I thought I would stay safe with sex-link pullets. Though I hear that may not always be the case with this particular breed. Here are my girls. Gem (may not be very original but really fits her). Jazz (short for Jasmine is very spunky and if one turns out to be a roo I would bet on this one). And Penny short for penguin because that is exactly what she looks like to me.

How funny! I have one named Penguin because her markings made her look like one. She is such a sweet chicken. We also have another Sapphire Gem. Pretty sure it is a he (husband is still holding out hope). His name is Bleuregard.
Picture 1- Penguin is about 3 weeks old
Picture 2-She is 4 weeks
Picture 3- our whole little bunch (other two are Sienna Stars). About 7 weeks old.

Here are my latest progression pictures of my Gems. Have a said before how much I love this breed? They are by far my favorite breed I’ve raised so far. Jazz jumps right up on my arms then gets comfy ready to sleep. I try to put her back and finish cleaning up their cage or give them food and she jumps right back on and won’t get off.

I got a couple of pictures that are a little better of the one I’m not sure is a pullet or a cockerel. I realize it is still too early to tell, but can you just tell me if there’s a chance it is a hen? Lol
Do you know if your one in question ended up being Pullet or cockerel? It looks a lot like one I have in question.

She’s a pullet, but I think she is a little older than the others and that’s why she’s maturing faster.

Here’s an updated picture of her.
Nice! She is beautiful!!!

This is my one in question at 4 weeks. Bigger comb and some pink waddle but nothing getting red yet. My black sexlink has really red starting of a waddle and I know she’s a girl so may not be anything.

View attachment 1412260 It's been awhile since I posted pics of my two sapphire gems. They are 11 weeks old now...I think I last posted when they were around 8 weeks. We were thinking one was a cockerel, but it's looking like they are both pullets. Aren't they beautiful?!?!

It’s amazing how the chick with the yellow beak and feet darkened up so much. Do you know at how many weeks old she started doing that? I am noticing where it looks like my chicks are getting darker feet so hopefully that’s a sign they are all pullets.

She looks like a girl. My one had a huge comb. I wouldn’t worry too much. Yours definitely looks like a girl to me!

Gold is not magnetic, though. Neither is DNA
Alloys are ;) And i cant say for certain the ring isn't just dipped in gold. But I'm assuming it's pure. So there you are correct. As for our bodies, they emit energy...as does every other substance on Earth. We are constantly reacting to our environment whether we realize it or not. I don't know what the science behind the gold ring test is (if there is any at all) but I suspect it has to do with energy. I can assure you that at the very least, both the chick and ring are emitting their own unique energy. I suppose those could somehow interact. But that's above my understanding
