My friend has 2 young kittens who look like they are going to be good ratters. They are always around the chicken coop at night which is good for controlling the rats and mice but how can we train them to leave the chickens alone?

In a supervised session, put them together and you will find that the chickens will quickly teach the kittens who's boss and who will ALWAYS be boss. Have fun.

put them in a box with a broody hen.

most of the time, a cat will not bother an adult standard sized chicken.

even mosty banties can beat the crap outta a cat.

I would not worry about it.

I love that picture!!

I had 2 cats that slept in the coop every night for a while. They were just kittens and as soon as they heard me calling the chickens they would run into the coop and pick a nesting box. They would nap in there off and on too.

Now they are older and don't sleep in there but the are always in the run. We have quite a few cats around our farm and never have had a problem between them. Sometimes the cats decide the chicken scraps are for them, but the girls usually let them know different!!
