Sammy's barking is due to ... high anxiety, I guess I would say. He hears something that startles him and that sets him off. And he does not have an off switch. Well ... I have empty water bottles with beans in them and I shake them at him and that temprarily distracts him, he does not like that sound. But he does not stop for long.

E collar?

Am already using it to control two other behaviors, chasing the vehicles and leaving the property. I tried using it for the barking but the puppy happened to be near him and Sammy attacked him, no doubt thinking the puppy was responsible for his discomfort, so I haven't used it again for the barking.

Have you tried to teach a command for him to be quiet? Because if you tell him to be quiet (and he knows very well what that means) and then use the e collar (assuming he 100% knows that comes from you) then I would think you wouldn’t have that issue. Chase is a pretty bad barker too, but as soon as I tell him to stop, he does (under normal circumstances, if some stranger was in the house he would have a very hard time quitting after I told him to the first time)

Oh wow! That’s definitely scary and understandable then

Yes

he does not.

yeah, no he does not. That is the problem. Cannot use ecollar for this issue.

I think I may need to "train an incompatible behavior." Like, put him on a Down Stay and correct for breaking the Down Stay if he barks. Holding a proper Down Stay is incompatible with barking. Hmmm. Let me think on this a bit.
