What is, in your opinion, the friendliest chicken breed?

Out of our four we had, three became bullies and no idea as to why. When we removed them from the flock the dynamic changed instantly and a calm settled over the other girls. It was weird. We had figured maybe they were maybe too inbred? They always laid funky shaped eggs no matter what we did and one of the bullies would eat the oddest things(not matter what lol)

The one we kept, Mama, has always acted differently than her "sisters" even though we got them from the same batch (TSC/Hoover's) I'm sure our situation may be a one off but if we do more chicks in future it would be brahmas for sure : )
That would be so disappointing. I'm sorry it worked out that way.

I've got 3 BO's on order, along with 3 barred rocks, as one day old chicks, near the end of June.

I have never had chickens, and these seemed to be the most Grandchild friendly breeds?

Maybe when I have a year under my belt, I can look at different breeds to add to the flock.

Hopefully yours will be super friendly! Ours just seemed like nut jobs from the get go. Even as chicks they were a bit bonkers. That's why we thought maybe there was something wrong or off with them. We've generally only heard good things about them, that's why we had a few. Just because ours didn't turn out, doesn't mean yours won't. We've just found that our Brahmas tend to be our sweetest and calmest of our flock.

Welsummer hens are friendly. Have had a few ornery Welsummer roosters though. Barred Rocks are typically friendly. Best rooster we ever had was a barred rock. Buff Orpington have been congenial. Never trained any as lap chickens though. We have Isa Browns (accident) and Speckled Sussex and they are both friendly. We can call them and they come to us and make chicken songs.

My d'uccles. Even the birds I hand-raised from chicks were not as friendly as them. I got the d'uccles at a month old and whenever I go out to their coop my pullets (I have 2 d'uccles) run up to me and love to be held.

I’ve had so many, but most friendly are my d’Anvers and bantam EEs that are Ameraucana/d’Anver crosses. I love them because they get excited to see you, love to say hi and visit you, and not a bit of aggression. Best chickens I’ve ever had for true snuggly and cuddly chickens though are bobtail Cochin roosters. They are hands down the best chickens. The hens are sweet, sassy, and beautiful…but the boys just love to be loved on 🥰😍 I had to rehome one last year to a family with young kids, and they’re so obsessed with him he even goes paddle boarding with them 😆 ❤️

Chicken are kind of like dogs. You have to train them. But they're way of training is spending quality time with them as chicks. I spend around 20 min a day with them and mine turned out friendly.
