"even in the south, where dogs are treated the worst in this country"
I am one of the members that do a whole lot of reading on here, but not a lot of talking. But to be completely truthful, this statement is offensive. I live in a household with a husband and 2 sons, all avid hunters as well as I am. We are all very good at hitting what we aim for. DH and I were raised hunting and fishing etc and passed that on to the boys. My 14 yo could most likely live off the land if he had to, he can track, trap, kill, clean, and cook his own meat better than most grown men. He traps hogs for $, coons to sell to people that eat them, etc.
Now on the flip side of that we are also HUGE dog lovers. Both boys have there own dog, and I have about 20 breeding toy breed dogs, yes I breed. My dogs are not kept in cages, they have a building that is heated/cooled that they go through there little doggie doors to get to. Large inside and outside runs. Plus all dogs take turns staying in the house with us to maintain socialization and housetraining etc. At any given time there is at least 4 dogs in my house. Over the last 3 years, I have put over $100,000.00 in the care of my dogs. And Im from the SOUTH! I love my dogs, my kids love there dogs, hubby loves them all as well. However, let something threaten one of our dogs and I would be the first one out the door packing a pistol. Such as when the neighbors down the road insisted on letting there pit bulls run loose. Warned them repeatedly, called cops, AC, etc that the dogs were coming here trying to get aggressive. Fines did nothing to those people. When the dogs came in my yard and killed one of my pigmy goat kids, all bets were off. Dh beat me out the door with his pistol. Even after it killed one of MY pets, I still cried. I felt sorry that the dog had apparetly not had the care/training it needed at home and had to die. Even though I firmly believe, and teach my kids, only kill what you will eat, sometimes (such as in this case) that rule has to be broken to protect yourself, your family, and your belongings (including pets/livestock).
