So I don't get it- a dangerous animal was killed- "thankfully so"- that's what 99% of everyone else means. Do you think the person who killed it was proud that he/she had to take a life, or that they saved a 3-year-old child?
I do not remember in ANY thread I read about a lynx at all, there have been some starving cougar cubs that have been killed, but the poster was very remorseful for having to do it, they were a direct threat to her, I've seen a couple of 'trap the bob-cat' post but I do not recall anyone killing a bobcat in awhile.
Coyotes are worse then dogs, dogs can be pets, or someone is being irresponsible and released a dog- or it accidentally escaped.
Cyo-dogs are worse- they don't have the fear and they are true predators.
A 'yotie pack vs your dog is not a fair fight - he might grievously get injured- or the coyote might get its leg crushed in his mouth- a crippled coyote is a danger because not it cant hunt - or it might slowly starve in the woods. They might figure out his limits (fence/chain) and one bait your dog (coons do this-we don't have coyotes where I am at the moment) and the others sneak in to kill...
There are a -few- people here that seem to -like- protecting their property too much, but by far the comments and tones are "-too bad this beautiful creature didn't respect human territory", or "OH NO I had to call out a trapper", or "Oh look I put an obviously in pain animal out of its misery".
You've changed what you were talking about first its poor domestic animals, now its poor wild animals.
Wild animals that are attacking human owned animals are also a danger to humans, a wild animals might be a feral dog or a coyote, or a bobcat or a mink or somebody's dumped dog that's forgotten to be submissive or friendly to humans.
-Also the chickens don't deserve to be caught by the throat and shaken till dead, just to move on the the next. a Chicken's life is equal to a dogs to a bobcats to a coyotes- except MY animal is on MY side of MY fence and I (don't own a gun) will protect what is MINE. I have my dog waste at the fence edges, I have a perimeter fence, I have a predator proof run and coop (so far).
But sorry the raccoon that wandered around between 12-2:00 PM every day, walking in circles was elderly/blind/or VERY sick. and I (suburban) called AC and they came out and caught it (catch pole) and loaded it. I asked what they were going to DO with it.
they said: "it will be put in a squeeze cage out of the truck, gassed then given a euthanasia medicine- it will then be checked for rabies."
The possum that was hanging around got hit with the hose at high pressure and ran at - it left alive under its own power. As it was young, and out at the right time and behaving according to its type.
I don't understand how shooting something once- with a well placed shot is worse then letting a starving animal get torn to ribbons by a large dog. Really desperate animals that have no other food source take stupid chances -or they go victimize another family that my not have a dog... Having been attacked by a dog myself (who later was destroyed as it also attacked a child and the owner) I understand fear of aggressive dogs- I would not own one.
The typed word -has- no tone, the words can only be taken at face value. Not everyone that is proud that they protected their homes is happy they had to take a life to do it. I've seen three people on the board with 77,000 members that had "bloodlust"-
*being proud of protecting is different then being proud of killing.*
Some people even rehab or rescue these animals:
We've got some feral cats. People have dumped them. I call them 'ditch kitties'. We have indeed rehabbed these cats by trapping them, spaying them, feeding them and keeping them around to control mice. They're not terribly friendly but if you move real slow and speak real soft they will allow a little petting and they do their job. They're terrified of my birds so we've got an understanding. We have one that we found in the ditch as a kitten who is now a beloved and old, entitled pet. That said, any feral animals come here and attack my birds they will be dead animals or gone animals. I've even given away one of my own dogs because he couldn't learn to stay away from chickens so you know I have no problem getting rid of some strange animal that decides it might be happy hunting here at Alberti farm.
