What is the best and worst thing about the area you live in?

Best: Its absolutely beautiful here, no matter what season! I have been all around the USA and its a rival for anywhere.
Worst: Well, I can take it, I am used to it by now, but the winters can be pretty brutal. The snow doesnt bother me as much as when it gets 30 below or more (not factoring in the wind chill!)

I am in Central Illinois, about 60 miles East of St. Louis, close to Carlyle Lake which is very nice. We do have gorgeous SHORT Springs usually, then it jumps right into summer. . .and while we do have dog days sometimes, I love the heat better than the cold. We have crazy winters now, and even crazier summers, but the fall colors cannot be beat. Southern Illinois and a car cruise along the Illinois River near Grafton is just unbelieveable. We do have some nice people, but then on the other hand . . .very controlling and run by the same bunch, small town politics. I would like to live where we could get a crop every month of something, but this is my roots and this is where I will stay.

Sidney Montana:

The Best- beautiful wide- open space, small town, friendly neighbours, I love having four seasons, I have an awesome view of the Yellowstone valley. Yes it gets really cold, but we don't have gigantic bugs!

And no humidity!

The Worst- about two months out of the year (July and August) we have knats and skeeters

YES!!

Best- being in Tampa Bay, everything is near, im in Pinellas so there is water on both sides so it doesn't get as hot as inland FL. Beach near or country a short drive away, malls, activities, great natural birthing community here, any hobby or interest is represented here

worst- other than the heat- too many people in place, nothing but cemement in my area and traffic. My heart belongs in tenn. but what little family i have is here or in MI and no thanks to those winters

That's Massachusetts in a nutshell. Well done. Oh wait, may I add TAXES to that worst thing?

I don't know how I could forget about taxes.

also fresh fish and lobster should have been mentioned in best things.

Ditto.

The best thing . . . the heat and humidity (wonderful for my skin!

), the wildflowers, the road systems, the fact that people understand the concept of property and you have the right to defend it against man or beast, and the animals . . . herping is a blast here, and it's heaven for someone who adores bugs as much as I do.

The worst thing . . . when you run into those pockets of ultra conservative, pro megachurch, hatred-in-the-name-of-religion weirdness. Luckily that element is kept down in my area, but it's very disturbing when you come in contact with it.

Rhode Island-
Best: Ocean smells and sounds. Del's Lemonade. Crisp fall colors. Feeding Seagulls french fries. Seafood. Autocrat Coffee Syrup. REAL Iced Coffee. Historical Buildings. No big predatory animals (bears, mountain lions, etc.). Snow in the winter to play in. Being able to get through your entire state in a couple of hours.
Worst: Misquitos big enough to ride on. High taxes in my city. Spring Monsoons (lol). EVERYTHING is MORE expensive here! Can have severe winters and summers.

Best: Not too cold in the winter, beautiful scenery, quiet, land is fairly cheap

Worst: Too dang humid in the summer, no decent jobs (even when the economy is good)

Massachusetts--

Best: Jobs pretty good in my field. Pays well, good benefits. One workplace doesn't work out, I can find another nearby, don't have to move.

Worst: Housing costs. Real estate prices are disgusting here. When I moved to Massachusetts from the Midwest, I thought I had enough in savings to make a downpayment on a smallish house and extra to make grad school a bit more comfortable. WRONG! Even living in the slums, in Section 8 housing, we ran through half our savings in a few months. Ugh. The only way I'll ever have a housing problem again will be if I move to downtown Tokyo. Even in this market, housing costs in Massachusetts are highway robbery.
