What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

This is the cutest chick ever!!! I love it. So I finally candled mine 12 silkies that were shipped, day 5 of incubation. I had them on their sides in my brinsea with  manual turning. I didn't turn them the first 24 hours. Anyway, day 5: I had one dud (blood ring) and about 5 with detached air sacs. So I took the advice from here and set them in an egg carton last night. Let's hope that helps! How long should I wait to check again to see if the air cell reattached?

on a side note - I locked down 11 local eggs, half polish and half Dominique. Wow, they look awesome. they were my first batch of local eggs as there isn't really many sources around here for hatching eggs. Let's hope for some chicks by Saturday!!!

I had some that never did, some that I think we're held in place by the embryo and some that looked 3/4 of the way normal and the other 1/4 was a huge U.. I'd just sort of tip them one way or the other (or prop opposite sides of your incu up) but then cand let them around day 8 or so..I try not to do anything with them until after that bc they are so fragile that first week..especially shipped

Which brinsea do you have? I have the mini Eco. I was able to fit 7 in there good with the cartons individually cut but my next batch is gonna be 10+, so I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I didn't turn either just tilted from one side to the other. I would check the air cells like every 3 days. I actually have never candled any other eggs but shipped, I bet local eggs have beautiful air cells!

So it's been about 10 hours since my first baby hatched and we finally have a second pip! Hoping to see a lot of babies hatched out tomorrow morning!
It's gonna be a fun morning at your house tomorrow! I hope you get to spend the day watching the hatches!! Congrats! I saw earlier you said that you don't candle after day 10, can I ask why? I'm still new so taking in all the knowledge I can get!

I have LGs so I don't know how the Brinsea is set up..but could you cut toilet paper or paper towel rolls into rings and set the eggs upright? I know most pics I've seen of the Brinsea, the eggs lay on their sides, so was assuming that's how it's made?

You just gave me an awesome idea! I was doing it this way but I won't be able to fit 10 in there. I'm gonna try to cut the paper towel roll! That's smart, girl!!

I only candle on days 7 and 10 just to minimize how much I handle the eggs. Especially with these shipped eggs I didn't want to handle them too much just because so many air cells were oddly shaped or detached. So far we have two little chicks hatched! Today is day 22 and none of the others have pipped yet.

I can't take credit..I read it somewhere on here..make sure to play around with the width you cut them (3 from one toilet paper roll is what seems to work best for me), but I've cut them bigger and smaller and if too big, the egg gets wedged inside and it's a pain to turn them and too small and they won't stay upright. .depends on egg size I guess. Hope it works out ♡
