What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

I wanted to share this interesting article I found on shipped eggs. I think it's a great article and everyone working with shipped eggs should read it. I'm really contemplating, not turning or tilting my eggs for the first 5 days. Let me know what you guys think!

I haven't read the article yet..but I don't turn any shipped eggs until after Day 3.. supposedly turning is 'most important the first 10 days' so I usually start on day 4 unless it's a bad cell then I will start tipping the egg back and forth for another 2 or 3 days.
Off to read the article..I planned on completely ignoring my incu and hatcher this go round on the Tolbunts..candle on 10 and 18, move to the hatcher and hope for the best..

I only candle on days 7 and 10 just to minimize how much I handle the eggs. Especially with these shipped eggs I didn't want to handle them too much just because so many air cells were oddly shaped or detached. So far we have two little chicks hatched! Today is day 22 and none of the others have pipped yet.
400

How many ended up hatching? I'm with you on the candling this round, except I'm gonna do Day 10 and Day 18 when I move them to the hatcher..I'm too worried about a weeping or exploding egg in the hatcher. He's sending me 24 eggs this time and like always, I'm happy with anything but really hoping my "hands off" approach contributes something positive..okay really off to read that article now..

This is definitely a must read ♡♡ I do recommend cutting the bottoms out of any carton used in the incu or hatcher to ensure eggs get good air flow..and don't forget to always wash your hands like you're scrubbing in for surgery before handling eggs..otherwise, follow it to a 'T'..
I'm gonna try to not turn til Day 5, I don't know that I'm comfortable enough to go the whole 7 days but I'm not going to use my turner at all this round..I'd been debating on it anyways and think that was the boost I needed.. Thanks for sharing ♡♡

I'm not comfortable going the full 7 days either! But after reading that I'm not gonna touch them for 5 days! It's interesting because I had 2 red rings in this last batch and when I opened them you could see that they started to develop but were floating, unattached. I definetly candled to much/handled to much/ turned to much because it was my first time! I've read that the red ring is bacteria but after reading that article I feel that the red rings were from so much handling with them being shipped. I think if I followed this strictly, I would have gone into lockdown with 5 instead of 3. I was thinking exactly what you wrote, I'm going to ignore these new eggs! Only candle 2-3 times and really try to let them rest and get strong! Hey, if it doesn't work, it gives me an excuse to get more eggs and try again! ;)

Lol..yep, I love an excuse to get more eggs ♡♡
The blood ring is bacteria, like you thought..but I think what they're saying is that sometimes the temps are just right during shipping for that egg to start developing and then either stops again during shipping or when put in the incubator and that from the start/stop, rough handling, or DNA getting mixed around (causing birth defects or malformations) and then the chick dies ..leaving the blood ring..blood ring still the same thing, just a different cause..I hope that makes sense. .it sounded way better in my head..lol..
yes, I'm going to tell myself these are my reds eggs and I don't care one way or the other if they hatch. .I have 100% of my girls eggs developing so maybe I'll get lucky and that'll rub off on my expensive shipped eggs..
I'm going to have to do some major researching on peafowl eggs..have never even laid eyes on one in person. .

My eggs are on day 14 now and I am almost positive they're all duds. I'm sad but I think I learned a lot. Today I am driving to meet someone to get 7 BLRW chicks. Now my hopes are shifting to a decent sex ratio. Haha.
I love seeing all the chick photos.

Where did you get the eggs from? Good luck with the chicks!

I got the eggs on eBay. I don't think the seller did anything wrong, as there was some sign of something happening in about half of the eggs. Just a lot of shaking in shipping, I think.

Chicks are awesome though! They're 10 days old :)

That's what is bad about shipped eggs..you just never know :\ I have 16 developing out of 20 shipped, not one detached air cell in the bunch. A month earlier I got 24 eggs, about 50% had detached air cells and I got 4 chicks, 18 eggs with all detached and got 2 chicks. My eggs from my girls I put in and usually get 9 out of 10 everytime.

But for me, I have no local breeders of anything that interests me, so if I want quality I've gotta get shipped..

At least you've got fuzzy butts ♡♡ nothing better :) I usually put 6 of my eggs in with every setting so that if none or only 1 hatch, I still get more than one chick.

My shipped silkie eggs came this morning!! :) I ordered 10 & got 15!! Now I have to see if I can fit them all in my mini brinsea! Alot of the air cells look good! None are detached. Half look solid and half look a little bit wobbly. One has a small hairline crack, so if I can't fit them all that will be the first to go! I'd love to actually try to hatch that one...I do love a challenge! So, I'm going to try to not touch them for 5 days straight! Then lay them down and start turning. Do you think I should try to keep the wobbling ones in cartons? I really wish I had a bigger incubator! Anyone else setting today or tomorrow?
