What is the biggest egg your chicken has laid and what breed laid it?

Your chickens are all wimps

I weigh in grams. The biggest was 104 grams or 3.65 oz. I think that would be XXXXJumbo if there were such a thing. This last May from my bigger Black Australorp. She followed that with an egg every day for the next 4 days in the low 60g range though we would have been understanding if she took a day off after that monster. We kept telling her "Zorra - cut it out with the huge eggs!!!!" Can't be good for her. Her average size is ~68g or 2.9 oz (solidly XL) but every once in a while she'd throw a massive one (mid 80s and up), always double yolk. Never had a triple, that would be cool. She just started back up last week after moulting in mid November and so far has laid reasonable 66g to 70g eggs. Only 3 eggs so far, we will see.
The other BA averaged 61.3g (2.2 oz) until she stopped a week before moult (2 weeks ago!!) but she tossed a 98g (3.5g)

5 days before her last egg. She's my best layer at an average of 4.5 a week since she started. Of course how that holds up will depend on how long before she restarts. She'll still be a super chicken in my flock, chosen more for diversity than max eggs, even if she goes 3+ months like some of the others.

We had an egg once that weighed out at the local farmer's market at 1/4 lb and had 4 full sized yolks in it. The hen was a Golden Comet and it was 1979.

We've stopped getting excited about big eggs...they just are and are kind of neat, but I wouldn't want my birds doing it all the time. Big eggs really tear down an oviduct over time.

A couple of weeks ago we had a very large one that had two full sized yolks and one small yolk in it. Looked like one of the BAs laid it. Here's a pic of it next to one of our large eggs....

Some big eggs! A triple yolker would be cool. My hen has normalized over the winter to just large eggs. She is the brattiest bird and she is not afraid of anything.

My gram egg scale only goes to 100 grams. I've had an egg past that mark. Can't remember if it was the black sex link or one of the hatchery Rhode Island Reds. They both regularly would give 80 gram eggs that were not double yolk but normal size for them was 68-72 grams.

Here's what my Rhode Island reds laid for me today, pretty slack sized though, they're still fairly young.
Just waiting for those double yolkers! :D

Over 2.5 ounces - that's as high as my scale goes = XL. One of my BO's started laying at 10 months old and her first egg maxed out the egg scale. She consistently lays only XL eggs.

Groucho, one of my cuckoo marans, lays double yolk eggs about twice a month. Her largest was 3.9 ounces. She used to lay doubles a couple times a week and I'm glad she's slowed that down. Although she's a pretty good size hen, I'd prefer she lay "normal" sized eggs as it's easier on the poor gal!
