What is the most creative recycled item you used in building your coop

I'm recycling current DH; although we haven't begun our coop yet, I think he's the best 'deal' I've gotten so far...free (if you don't count the feed he requires daily) and by using him, I've kept him from wandering the streets alone and causing who-knows-what kind of damage.

We used linoleum reminents for floor and droppings board. Left over pole barn tin for roof on coop and run. Old utility trailer frame for base on the coop.

Could you post a picture? I've heard of people using old satellite dishes, but I've never seen one. Lord knows there's enough of them around that aren't being used for anything.

How's this for recycled or original......I have a chicken tractor that's 6ft long by 4ft wide and 4 ft high that I needed for 2 silkies, since I didn't have money to build a house/coop for them we had a small 3 drawer oak filing cabinet on legs. The drawers were removed and used for nesting boxes elsewhere and the filing cabinet was fastened to the tractor and turned into the silkie house equipped with a wicker basket for a nesting box! Perfect for a pair of silkies!

I used a "previously enjoyed" vinyl shower curtain liner to temporarily cover the plywood roof of my tractor while I thought about a more permanent waterproofing solution.

"Temporary". Ha. It was still on there two weeks ago when I sold the tractor.

After 2 1/2 years (winters spent outdoors but under a roof) there was a tiny pinhole in one corner but otherwise it looked as good, and was as intact and waterproof, as the day I put it on. Go figure

I did advise the buyers they should probably put something better on instead <g>

My coop is a recycled ice fishing shack. I live in Maine.....very cold, I insulated the shack with all left over pink foam board insulation. the run outside is an old dog kennal that my dogs would regularly escape from. windows are from an old truck cap.. cool crank out ones with screens! from the dump. all the plywood and 2x4s are construction debris
I think the only things a bought where wood shavings, watering thingy, food and cute baby chicks. got a donated steel feeder. what fun!
