what is the proper etiquette for garage sales..dogs acceptable or not?

So i understand both sides of this. I personally HAVE taken my dog to garage sales. I have NOT however just walked up onto someones property without asking if it was alright. I will not take my dog onto someones property who has another dog out. My dog is very friendly with both people and other dogs, but i dont know if the other dogs are. I have had someone yell at me for supposively bringing my dog onto their property when in fact i was walking on the street/ side walk (it kinda ran together). Which is not their property, needless to say when i explained this he got this really ashamed look on his face and turned around and walked away. After i said to him for being so rude, by the way your trunk that was for sale, the one for 150 dollars, i was going to buy that. But since you were so inconsiderate when i wasnt even close to being on your property i will not buy it. He turned around and was trying to be VERY kind to me after that. He wanted that 150, which he didnt end up getting. As for the whole dog barking when they see another dog on their property I think this is a bunch of bull. You can be 100 feet from that dogs property and if it sees your dog IT IS GOING TO BARK! Thats what dogs do. And for the whole some people might be allergic to dogs, i know this is a big issue, but you also have to realize that 90% of the people that have these garage sales most likely have dogs. Every single garage sale i went to one time had a dog. People with said allergy will tend to stay away from them. But yes if you bring a dog into a garage sale it is a good idea to not only ask the owners if it alright but the customers, just in case. This also goes for people who are scared of dogs. I also agree with breezy though, i absolutely will not let any kid under any circumstance run at my dog. If the garage sale has kids i will explain before i even bring my dog out of the car that to run at a dog is not a good idea, nor is it a good idea to stare into their face. This causes the dog to get uncomfortable and some dogs might take it as them trying to dominate. Also if someone came up to me with a dog at my garage sale and said they were friendly....wel idk. This one i would have to leave up to the dog. Dogs are very easy to read. You can tell if a dog is actually friendly or not. If it were my garage sale I would say YES! Bring on all the cute doggies! I dont mind the slobber! Haha! Sorry if this contradict anyone respose, which i know it has, but just my opinion. If you do take your dog places just make sure YOU are being careful. It is your resposibility to take care of them.

I watched a pocket dog get crushed when the lady at a yard sale set it down and the owners dog jumped the fence and killed it. Common sense goes a long way.

no, do not bring your dog, it is rude. Some people are scared of dogs, not matted how well behaved, they shouldn't have to be in fear of them on their own property. That is great that your dog is so well behaved and has such good manners... but who is to say that the property owners dogs are??? What if THEIR dogs aren't so friendly to a strange dog coming on to their property?

And no,.I would never take a dog, well-trained or not, into anyone else's yard for anything,..very rude IMO. Also comparing dogs to children,...you don't have to worry about your children biting someone, (or at least I'd hope not),...that is a huge difference. Dogs are animals,...children are human,...If you want to baby something and spend piles of money on it,..adopt a human child that needs a family. There are plenty in need.
