What is the purpose of backyard chickens?

Folks, you've got to realize that without the social aspect, many would not be here tirelessly to answer chicken related questions. Nobody wants to be a "open 24 hours a day" chicken expert. The social aspect keeps many, many informed people on here answering all of your questions.

If you split the chicken and social side recent posts sections, probably more questions will go unanswered, since many of the more informed folks don't need to ask chicken questions enough to visit that side if it was segregated.

Plus as many have said already, there is a search function, if you cant get anybody quick enough...

I think everyone needs to remember that the common bond here IS chickens. People who don't have them but want them, people that have them and have no clue what to do for them, people who have them and need more knowledge, people who breed them, etc. The common bond is chickens, and all of us have other aspects of our lives that we enjoy sharing with other chicken lovers.

I personally thought it was going good? There are informational threads and like this one, social threads. If you don't want peoples opinons, which can lead to ramblings, state so, or search for answers in previous posts. That could sound mean, but I don't mean it to.

It's just a forum that is open to all who register. Mods do a great job of keeping it on topic.

You don't sound mean!! Not at all. I think there are some folks that just don't like the social aspect of the site. Which is fine! They don't have to visit these forums. I love the yacking. I love the other forums too as they have taught me SOOOO much. Everything I know about chickens I learned here. And that is an awesome thing.

I think people come to the forum for the information, but stay for the people. That's what happened with me. I came because for FFA I got chickens and didn't know anything except they were cute. I know a lot now and don't want to end the ties with the great people I've come to know maybe not personally, but through posts...

If you only use the RECENT POSTS option, of course a post will get lost.

Seriously, how hard is it to go to the index and find the right area and avoid the ramblings completely?

And there are only 1 or two replies...maybe they got the answer right the first time and nobody had any reason to disagree??

Newbie here and would like to chime in on this.

As many have mentioned there are ways to get the information you want. My current favorite is to subscribe to the posts that give me the information I searched for, asked questions and received very valuable information on the topic. Do appreciate the uniqueness of personality and friendships.
Personally I hope that the board remains the same. IMHO, all are here with everday life and a shared purpose.

Okay all,

I enjoy the random ramblings and all the other things, but I've got a question on raising chicks, and I'd really like some help determining if my hen will be okay with the chicks I fostered with her. Can't find anything like it in the search, so if anyone has a minute.....
