What is the purpose of backyard chickens?

Honestly I think Nifty's explanation is the best. Like I said before our common bond IS chickens. That does not mean that we only talk about chickens. And it was pointed out that a more specific title will garner more responses.

Well I for one want to say Thanks to Nifty for even having this amazing site and for keeping it going the way it is.

I used to be on 2 other forums years ago and I swore off forums because of the "drama, clicks, and nastiness" that formed

Last year getting chickens, I found BYC and havent looked back. its the only forum I belong to and will remain that way - so thanks Nifty and mods. great job! I come here to learn about chickens AND to socialize; as some others have said, some of us just dont get out much or leave home either for their own reasons or just unable to do so.

Now - about posts not getting answered and those "random ramblings, chatting, etc" - well - I just dont see it to be honest on posts not getting answered. For me, I visit as many areas on this board as I personally have knowledge in - if I dont have knowledge in it, I dont respond, but that doesnt meant I didnt read someones post. Also - the search function is there for a reason

. I also view this site this way - there are 3 sections that are not "chicken related" out of all the sections on here: Games, Jokes, & Fun - Family & Life - and Random Ramblings. I dont think those 3 sections out of ALL of the sections on BYC are creating massive pages of Recent Posts. I have found quite the opposite actually, those 3 sections have dropped off quite a bit lately and all the others are going up in posts.

That being said and all things equal - I still wouldnt change a thing and Nifty - you're doing a great job - so thank you again, and the mods too!

Honestly, I have never needed information I could not get here. I have received it through either searching or the helpful posting of fellow members. That is why I joined. I consider the friendships I have made along the way a wonderful bonus! I am thankful for the laid back, friendly nature of this site!!!

Chatting on here has nothing to do with unanswered posts...nothing at all...becaue..lets "really" think about this...the people on here that know enough to really help you out..they are not big chatters on here...i may have 7000 posts, but i am still pretty new to chickens..(only since last spring..) i am still learning myself...and to be honest i do not feel comfortable giving to much advice on them yet...on some things, yes, but on alot of things i dont want to give the wrong advice and end up killing your bird...do you understand? also, the chatters do not just stay in one thread...and talk and talk and talk...if you really look at their posts they respond to many, many other topics...why is it mandatory to help you just because they are members here?(this is a VERY diverse website..it is NOT just about chickens...and i am sure you realized this when you signed up and saw all the differant forum topics...

...) look, i hear you about sometimes not getting help...i really do! but, just keep being a pest...*i'm going to bump up my own thread on angel wing as a matter of a fact!!..* its just how it is here sometimes...why cry about it?
