What is the purpose of backyard chickens?

I didn't read all the replies so, sorry if this is duplicating what other said:

Two comments, First: You need to look at why it might be people aren't replying. As I mentioned here ,:

100% of cases where there isn't a quick reply, or no reply at all fall into one of these categories:

1) Nobody knows the answer
2) Not enough detail to answer the question
3) Poor title / subject or put in wrong section
4) The question is already asked tons of times on the site and/or forum and the members who happen to be online when the question was posted just aren't in the mood to answer it again.

Addressing some or hopefully all the issues above almost always results in replies to a question.

Second point: If it were not for BYC's social aspects, few peeps would stick around BYC and nobody would be here to answer any of your questions at all. Other forums are all business (whatever the topic might be) all the time, and they quickly fail or have HUGE turnover in members and not a lot of activity. The social aspects of BYC help give people a reason to be here, so when a question follows the 4 items above, there is a higher probability of an answer.

I hope no one took my post to mean that I want only seriousness on BYC! Of course the social aspect is great... and is what keeps peeps here, including me. We're just trying to figure out how to get our questions answered. Nifty, your points are good ones above, but I still think the speed/volume of posting has lessened posters getting answers to some of their questions.

I'd have to disagree, if you don't mind. I'll kindly rebuttal. The speed is of course picking up right now because everyone is getting in the first chicks of the season. New people are joining. There are TONS of posts, but if you look beyond subject lines, they are mostly all asking the same things. Also, with posters losing posts, there is a search area, and I don't think people use it enough. If someone sorted through and deleted questions that were asked multiple amounts of times, the forum would have a lot less posts.

BTW, we're always looking for good articles to add to the BYC Learning Center and to the forum FAQ's.

If everyone got together and compiled / organized all the great info (at least from the top 100 questions) in the BYC forum we'd have an amazing repository of info!

There is 280 some pages of unanswered posts.

You'll find that those unanswered posts are usually Buy-Sell-Trade items, statements / discussions / stories / ramblings (not "help my chicken" questions) or they fit into one of the 4 categories mentioned by me earlier.
