Second point: If it were not for BYC's social aspects, few peeps would stick around BYC and nobody would be here to answer any of your questions at all. Other forums are all business (whatever the topic might be) all the time, and they quickly fail or have HUGE turnover in members and not a lot of activity. The social aspects of BYC help give people a reason to be here, so when a question follows the 4 items above, there is a higher probability of an answer.

OK, I agree with this. However, i do get frustrated with very personal posts. I would think that a PM session would be in order for some of these. I would think that emails could be sent rather than page after page of posts on personal, sometimes not so kid freindly topics and such.

Now, I am not against some one on here going through a tough time and getting support, but I really do not think that a chicken forum is the place to do it.

You and I have been through conversations privately on my actions on this forum and this is the way it should be.

I am always awarre of what my fingers are typing realizing that this forum is read by children and they are encouraged to do so.

Many kids have chickens and/or caring for them.

I have almost always gotten decent and imformative answers to my chicken questions. It is important to be VERY specific and detailed to get the same in help with your problem.

I too have gotten rather tired of answering emergency questions that have been asked several times. However, as i have stated in the past. When one has an emergency and one is new to this chicken thing, really all you want is a quick reply and searching for an answer may come at a latter time when the real time critical event is over.

The idea here is to educate each other so we ALL can educate others as needed. I have learned a great deal and I also have realized that common sense is key to taking care of any animal.

Of course I live with a woman that seems to be the "doctor doolittle" and learning from her never ceases to amaze me.

I am a pretty private person and I hate the way this country is being run, but my chickens keep me sane and in touch with what really is important. You can learn alot from a chicken.

I once belonged to a chicken site that didnt allow as they put it "people to post just to post" if you didnt have the answer to the question you were not allowed to say anything...... if you did it was deleted. It didn't take long until there was no one posting. With no one posting no one is read, when no one is posting or reading then there soon is no more forum.

Here's my suggestion. Before people start posting non chicken posts, take the time each time you log in to go to one of the "chicken" sections.

Choose a couple of posts and respond to them. Also check out the unanswered threads. Fun and chatting is great but it is frustrating when you post needing help and get little or no response.

I find it helps to time your questions in the morning and at night. I seem to get better responses then, but I like the socializing also.

BYC is not a 24 hour tech hotline. If the answers are not coming fast enough, do a search. The members do not get paid to answer questions, they do it out of the kindness of their hearts and to "pay it forward" in honor of those who have helped them in the past.

Some folks complain that answers don't come in three minutes. That is unreasonable. Some folks don't like the answers they get. As someone already said, many frequently asked questions don't need more than a response or two.

BYC can't possibly be everything to all people. Don't begrudge folks' social aspect of BYC because you may not like it. You choose what to click on, how much info to share and whom to converse with.

I think BYC is great personally. I've gotten quite an education by some pretty cool people!
