Second point: If it were not for BYC's social aspects, few peeps would stick around BYC and nobody would be here to answer any of your questions at all. Other forums are all business (whatever the topic might be) all the time, and they quickly fail or have HUGE turnover in members and not a lot of activity. The social aspects of BYC help give people a reason to be here, so when a question follows the 4 items above, there is a higher probability of an answer.
OK, I agree with this. However, i do get frustrated with very personal posts. I would think that a PM session would be in order for some of these. I would think that emails could be sent rather than page after page of posts on personal, sometimes not so kid freindly topics and such.
Now, I am not against some one on here going through a tough time and getting support, but I really do not think that a chicken forum is the place to do it.
You and I have been through conversations privately on my actions on this forum and this is the way it should be.
I am always awarre of what my fingers are typing realizing that this forum is read by children and they are encouraged to do so.
Many kids have chickens and/or caring for them.
I have almost always gotten decent and imformative answers to my chicken questions. It is important to be VERY specific and detailed to get the same in help with your problem.
I too have gotten rather tired of answering emergency questions that have been asked several times. However, as i have stated in the past. When one has an emergency and one is new to this chicken thing, really all you want is a quick reply and searching for an answer may come at a latter time when the real time critical event is over.
The idea here is to educate each other so we ALL can educate others as needed. I have learned a great deal and I also have realized that common sense is key to taking care of any animal.
Of course I live with a woman that seems to be the "doctor doolittle" and learning from her never ceases to amaze me.
I am a pretty private person and I hate the way this country is being run, but my chickens keep me sane and in touch with what really is important. You can learn alot from a chicken.
