What is Wrong With BYC Today? - "Please enter something before you submit your post"

I've been having the problems ever since the site was down a few days ago for maintenance. Quotes almost never work and I almost always have to preview before I can post. I always get a popup saying I have to type something first before posting.

"Please enter something before you submit your post."

it's happenning with most posts. here's a suggestion for capturing a screen shot and finding your version of browser when it does.

when the message pops up, hit the print screen button on your keyboard. it may say 'prt scr', usually located near the 'home' 'end' 'instert' 'delete' keys near the number pad on the right. then open up Paint from your start menu (or whatever paint program you prefer). then do [ctrl]-[v] (both keys at the same time) to past the screen shot into a new image file. save it (save as) as a jpg or jpeg file on your computer, and upload like you would other images.

to find the version of browser you are using, click help or the ? icon and go to 'about...' and it'll tell you which version you are using. if you don't have the icon or see 'help' on the command bar, right click anywhere on the title bar near the commands/icons/favorites you do have, and it'll pull up a menu, and put a check mark next to 'Menu Bar' and it'll put the menus back for you

if you use other browsers, you can still find the version under 'help' and then 'about'.

Thanks everyone, we're having a hard time duplicating this problem. If we can narrow it down to a specific browser version, page, etc. it will help.


We MUST have the following:

1. Your browser and version
2. Does it happen every time you post on the forum? If not, we need URL examples of pages you had this problem
3. Does it happen when you send PM's or post comments on pages / articles?
4. Have you tried another browser?

1) IE8
2) I was going to say quotes never work, then it worked on this post. Almost always have to preview before I can submit, I'll edit to say what happens with this post.
3) I've only sent one PM recently and it worked.
4) No, I haven't

ETA - This post worked fine, I quoted and it posted without having to preview first. This is the first time a post has worked normally in nearly a week.

the majority of the time i have a problem is when the page has been loaded for several minutes (or more). if i reload the page and post immediately then i never have a problem.

i use my subscriptions list and open each thread in a new tab, so they sit there while i read thru each one. lately if i want to comment or quote, i just refresh the page, and it works fine. if i forget to refresh, then i have problems.

What's the scoop ?
I'll reply to threads & its still saying that I need to type something before posting which I already did. The only way to post my reply is to preview the reply then submit. Is this something new its been happening for weeks now. Am I the only one having this problem? Are maybe this is something new that I'm not aware of. I'm by far no computer guru.

Hey in order to trouble shoot, you should try to get a screen shot of said issue. And every click dodad and thingymajig that was clicked or typed.

I've been using the same computer from the get go. Its BYC not me.
