Hope you can help me again: my jersey giant, Blue (isn’t she pretty!!) has been wandering around with this raw, red bottom for a few weeks now. She’s eating and acting normal. Our chickens free range on our 2.5 acres and are rarely in their coop. Last week, thinking it might be mites or lice, we treated her with permethrin (spray from local farm store) on top of the garden and poultry dust she got earlier in the spring. We cleaned our coop, sprayed it as well, dusted and layed new bedding. None of our other 7 girls are having any issues. Does anyone think this is something different? Does anything think she should be treated again? Happy to take constructive suggestions and recommendations. Thank you in advance!

Had a rooster with a bad case of mites, Looked just like that. The only advice i can give you is to treat her regularly for mites or lice and make sure whatever you keep her in is nice and clean.

If she's behaving normally, the inflammation is probably no further than the surface layer of skin. But what I would do is give her a soak in Epsom salts each day for about ten minutes, dry her, spray with Vetericyn, dry her, and smooth on coconut oil, which has natural antibiotic and anti-fungal properties as well as moisturizing the inflamed skin.

Do this until the skin is a normal color again.

How much or often is considered regular treatment? Thank you for your response!!!

How well do chickens sit for salt baths? Is it difficult to accomplish?
