A friend of mine I work with neigbor's horse who was only 10 years old and blind was dragged this weekend by a atv. This horse was not only blind but gave rides to all the neighborhood kids and never had a mean bone in his body. I have horses that I truely love and if this were my baby I don't know what I would do. This just sickens me. This horse was tied to a atv and dragged for several miles they believe. Their is a atv path nearby and the owner recently fenced in the pasture for her horses. They believe it was kids but what kind of kids would do this to an animal, a future socialpath. I'd like to have 5 minutes with this person, I honestly think I would kill(I mean it )if this were any of my babies. I really don't know how this woman could cope with this, but my heart goes out to her. here is the article from our local paper.
ATV riders sought in death of horse, cruelty to others

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP —

The Humane Society of Mercer County and state police are looking for all-terrain vehicle riders they believe killed a horse and possibly hurt four others in Shenango Township between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

“It’s horrible,” said Renee Dorogy, the humane agent who’s investigating the animal cruelty incident with police.

Ms. Dorogy and police were called around 6 p.m. Wednesday to a pasture at state Route 318 and Bethel-Wilmington Road, where Tory Morgan of Sharon leases the property for her five horses.

The property the pasture occupies is owned by Adam Nitch, who lives nearby but can’t see the pasture from his home, Ms. Dorogy said.

Ms. Morgan had been at the pasture around 8 p.m. Tuesday to feed the horses and when she returned early Wednesday evening, she found one horse, Kaluha, dead and the others injured. She noticed the pasture was full of what looked like ATV tracks.

Kaluha, a 10-year-old male that was blind, had marks on his body that appeared to have been from a rope. Ms. Morgan believes that means the horse was tied to a rope and dragged by an ATV and she and police think Kaluha was also hit by one.

“It was definitely not an accident. The owner is devastated,” Ms. Dorogy said.

Kaluha also had patches of his white fur missing, a broken leg and multiple cuts and scratches over much of his body. The other horses had cuts and scratches, which could have come from them running through trees to escape the alleged attackers, Ms. Dorogy said.

“The other horses were scared to death,” she said.

The pasture is surrounded by fencing and all but one of the gates are locked to allow the Amish to fish at a nearby pond, she said.

“I can’t understand how a person could knowingly hit or drag a horse,” Ms. Dorogy said.

A neighboring property owner told Ms. Dorogy they heard ATVs early Wednesday but couldn’t see anything from their home. She still has several more neighbors to interview.

The Humane Society is offering a $500 reward for anyone with information that leads to the conviction of whoever is responsible for the horse’s death.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Humane Society at 724-981-5445 or state police at 724-662-6162.

Wow, that is just sick!!! And a horse of all things! To me, this just screams that whoever did this was cruel to smaller animals at some point first, as who would pick on a horse first? I hope they catch them and throw the book at them!! Steph

Thats terrible I have no idea what kind of people woudl do something like that. The poor horse

This is the sort of thing that know sane person can understand. And it is sad, sad, sad. My guess is that there was alcohol involved, and some sort of mob mentality. Can't say what I really think on a family forum.....

We saw this in our local paper, too.

I would be out searching for EVERY ATV owner and their kids, it would almost have to be a local bunch, you know?

It just makes me sick to think of what that poor horse went through.

What's the world coming to these days, ya know?

I am sorry, but that makes me want to spout every bad word that I know. Karma has a big can of whoop-butt waiting for those jerks. Truly cruel... I am so glad that no one can hurt that animal again, no animal deserves that, not even the nasty ones.

I hope they find those responsible and they do actual time over it instead of a slap on the wrist and a fine. I think those responsible for such abuse against animals need to be dealth with more harshly, they're obviously lacking in the emotion/ empathy dept. and as Carri mentioned how long before they turn to injuring people for kicks!

Well, I can't post on these things anymore because my opinions ended up requiring editing.

Some people.

I read this and just got so angry. I have 6 horses of my own with a baby on the way and this just sickens me. What kind of sick person or people could do that to any animal? I feel in that case when they catch them do the same thing to them that they did to those poor horses. Same with people who abuse children.
