I'm sick of turning on the news to see the NY Senate, acting like a bunch of spoiled kids. I think we should fire them all for not doing there jobs. The only thing they've managed to figure out,is that they should be pay'd while there refusing to do there jobs. ..........Fire & Rehire the peoples choice...Sorry,just a rant

We lost tv with the great signal switchover early this month (yes, we have the "box", but we're too far from the signals to get it without a new - expensive - antenna). I thought I'd have withdrawls or something, but I was wrong. There's a lot of negative crud coming out of that box every night - I think I'm better off without it.

All I miss is the weather forcast. I have fast internet at work, so I check the weather the days I work, and look up at the sky on the days I don't

This is such a serious topic. I started listening to Rhonda Byrne's CD's, "The Secret" and she said she stopped listening to the news or reading newspapers because the news was always bad. (I love how they stick in that 45 second clip at the end of horrendous news about the lion who hugs his lady who raised him and kept him from death, or the little kid who did something funny, like its suppose to "take away" the horrors of what they just showed us!!!!) I started staying away from the news also, and found that I did feel better and if someone remarked about a horrible thing that happened, I could honestly say I didn't know a thing about it. I have been slipping back to watching the Today show, because I love Matt Lauer and his gang, but was just thinking that its ALL bad, and I really need to get back off of it. I also get aggravated at some of the things they show that most of us Joe Blow's can't/couldn't/wouldn't be able to afford. It doesn't bother me, because I am happy with what I have (well, I would like new floors, but only because I need them, not because I want them) but for some people in this world, it makes them want want want and then they are unhappy because they can't have that stuff, and I think it breeds discontent. Another thing that irritated the heck out of me is this: My kids LOVED Michael Jackson when he was the King in the 80's, but that guy did some really freaky bad things, and now that he has died, he is like a freaking hero ...so I turned it off. Insulted me that one year they are blasting him and telling the bad stuff about him, but NOW . . . .I am seriously thinking about getting a DVD recorder and making copies of cartoons and stuff all fall and winter and turning off the satellite for the summer months in 2010. I love to read by my 8 year old would be sad without some of his cartoons, and I understand that . . .but he watches reruns all the time, so he wouldn't care that they were the same thing as long as we had several to pick from!!! Good topic!!! Sorry I went on, but this has been a real "thinker" topic for me for the past several months, and its good to see other people thinking the same thing.

We have bought DVDs of old Andy Griffith shows and The Waltons and Bugs Bunny. My boys have been watching original Star Trek on youtube.com. Forget the news shows. We get it from internet and radio.

I get all my news and TV shows from the internet that way I can filter out the stuff I don't really need to hear about. We only watch the ball games on live TV, and then only if our child is otherwise occupied because some of the commercials are totally inappropriate for a young child to be seeing. I hate TV. I hate the commercialized garbage that is force-fed to us if we want to wind down and enjoy a TV show. I hate that TV is encouraging people to consume, consume, consume...whether it be food, or clothes, or new cars every year, or a bigger house that can't really be afforded. It discourages me. I hate that the only news that gets aired is the catastrophic, and the only pleasant news is a little 2 minute piece at the end of the broadcast. Why can't news be all information that we need to know- good and bad? Why can't news sometimes celebrate that we are living in good times (not great, but good)- violent crime rates are down from years past, people are living longer and better than before, basic necessities are readily available to most...

News organizations are pandering to the sensationalists. They have to, I suppose, because it brings in the ratings, but I hate it. Why does is it always have to be gloom and doom? I don't know about everyone else here, but I have enough drama in my life that I don't need to go seeking outside sources for it. I would like to feel up-lifted for once after seeing what's going on in the world, but that ain't happening. Atleast, not recently.
