Odd that it's just the one egg. Could be it was right up against an especially cold area?
I also wonder if maybe it was some sort of issue where there were multiple tiny air sacs for some sort of internal-egg-factory reason. Were the pockmarks all lined with membrane like the air sack is?
I hear ya...with winter coming and laying slowing down it happens. If you have younger girls they might even wait till next spring to lay. I live in a very small town. One day I had to buy eggs and the sweet little cashier girl (20ish) gasped “OH NO! What happened to your chickens??”We're only getting a few eggs a day & they all went into the incubator. Hopefully everyone will start laying soon & I won't need to buy them at the store.
