What is your favorite chicken breed?

Tough question when you really enjoy a lot of breeds.

One of my favorites are Easter Eggers. Just in love with the variety of colors they come in, their large blue egg laying, and overall friendliness. Really can't top it for me.

I used to think I loved Wyandotte's, but they are rather tough towards other hens and don't like being handled at all. They do still have their perks though...

I really like a lot other breeds but haven't had the chance to own them to really cast a solid opinion.

Is your profile pic an EE? Beautiful!

So this is where I am...

I would like to try WHs, muscovies and if I can get past the bizarre posture of runners, they seem to have a huge positive feedback. Kevin might actually enjoy calls as well. (I am so lucky to have an animal and bird adoring guy! Noises, cuteness, empathy...Tolerates and loves ANY animal)

Currently we have 4 Pekin ranging between 4 and 6 weeks, a KC 6 weeks, 2 Rouen 2 weeks,

4 RIRs 6 weeks...so far my second and third faves in the flock are 2 of my reds...for curiosity and friendliness,

3 BSLs 6weeks (which are the most boring and skittish with the most non-desript personalities...they are just...there. not a fan)

2 brahma 6weeks...beautiful and fairly pleasant thus far

A leghorn of 6weeks who appears to be a cockerel who is my absolute hands down favorite (we shall see as he ages) he is cuuuuurious! So goofy! So friendly, so calm and is ALWAYS doing something that makes me whip out my camera!

A banty I am told is likely an English Game, less than two weeks and everyone's fave because he is teeeenie weeeenie!

And one banty of less than 2 weeks that most have agreed is a booted bantam and is way too cute and fairly tolerant.

(We got 2 polish last friday. One died the next morning. The other last night. Same strange leaking air sac as the first. Checked with supplier. No notable issues with the rest of their stock so...‍♀️)

After this thread, EEs are on my list. Originally I took issue with them as I have read repeatedly that suppliers regularly try to pass them off as Arocana. I am not a person who likes to be duped. At all! But after so many positive comments, and the fact that I realized my view is skewed, (it's the pure breds I should avoid unless from a direct breeder, not the poor EEs lol) I am interested in the fun colors and pleasant personalities. Thank you all again for the great input! Keep adding! I LOVE this thread! Pics! Pics!!

Hands down Araucanas. TRUE Araucanas. I love the rumpless look. They are not like any other chicken breed I have owned. They are on a whole different level of intelligence than other breeds and the cocks/cockerels are gentle with both humans, animals and other males. They are very predator alert and have a lot of personality. And who doesn't like blue eggs?

So far my favorites are Olive egger and red sex links. Both lay great eggs and are quite gentle birds. They get along with my dogs and anyone who comes to visit. They're good for free ranging and aren't as flighty as most birds. It's close to 90 where I am and they don't seem to mind the heat, they're usually sunbathing or splashing in puddles I make with the hose. In the winter it was 7 degrees a few days and they went outside and didn't seem to mind it.

This is my Olive Egger, Eve. She is checking out the new chicks that I got. They're an Ameraucana, Delaware, and a Barred Rock. They were just 3 random breeds I got from the farm, I just chose them off color and what the farmer suggested. They had so many different breeds, I would've gotten one of each if I had it my way :celebrate

The Ameraucana kills me with its face. I cannot wait to see what she looks like when she's older and what color she lays!

Would really like some should I ever research a reputable breeder somewhere within fair driving distance.
