What is your favorite duck breed?

Thanks for letting me know! I just want them for egg laying purposes. The Muscovies can make up for them being not as social! Are the WHs as good of layers as the KCs?

They seem to lay just as many eggs as the KC's but they do go broody more often so that would affect their egg laying.

I have Swedish and KCs. I prefer my Swedish. They are calmer, larger, hardier in poor weather, lay larger eggs, lay consistently/daily through spring/summer. The KCs are skittish and their eggs aren't really any larger than my chicken eggs. The KCs are terrified by everything pretty much. I don't raise ducks for meat, but if that was a consideration I would choose Swedish over the KCs (the KCs are small, the size of a chicken). The Swedish girls lay just as many eggs as the KCs, so you can get meat without sacrificing egg production. The Swedish seem more willing/likely to go broody (not sure if that's important).

What color of eggs do your Swedish ducks lay?

All my ducks lay the same color eggs, they are kinda a cream color with a greenish bloom.

I can't even separate a broody hen and her chicks from the rest of the chickens without them stopping laying eggs for a whole month or two!!! Its ridiculous!

I totally agree. My ducks are super hardy compared to my chickens. Every few months I feel I am treating my chickens for something and there is never anything wrong with the ducks. They don't seem to get the diseases or parasites the chickens do. Also my chickens will hide from the weather or not lay on a windy day because they are scared/stressed, but the weather doesn't ever seem to phase the ducks, they will sleep outside in a blizzard by choice, and the ducks seem to lay through everything. I swear my one chicken, who is supposed to be a production/egg breed, finds any excuse she can not to lay an egg .

The KCs are nervous, but it doesn't stop them laying. They don't hide and refuse to come outside, but if you need to catch one for some reason it's quite a bit harder.
