A few days ago we picked up a number of pullets from our local feed store. They were a special order of 20 week olds that someone decided they couldn't pick up for whatever reason. The feed store called us and we jumped on the chance.
They are mostly production reds that we were happy to get because the number of people wanting our eggs has grown and we have been hard pressed to keep up with the requests. Having new hens at the point of lay will be quite a help to us.
I was horrified to see that they had been debeaked! I literally went around with a lump in my throat wanting to cry. They were so happy to be out of the little cages they were in. I know they hadn't ever had the chance to dust bathe or anything remotely chicken like. They are VERY happy now!
In the number of pullets we picked up there were three that the feed store told us were "yellow" ameraucanas. Never heard of those so I thought I'd post a few pic's and see what the general consensus is in regards to what kind they are. Perhaps they are just mutts?
One is mostly white with some black, another is the same, but has even more black, and the last one has quite a bit of gold on her. They are definitely some sort of ameraucana-ish birds. I wonder if calling them yellow ameraucana's is about egg color because they don't seem yellow to me. (One of our ameraucana's we already have lays yellowish eggs with speckles on them.)
Has anyone ever seen Ameraucana's like these?
Thanks!
Deb
