A few days ago we picked up a number of pullets from our local feed store. They were a special order of 20 week olds that someone decided they couldn't pick up for whatever reason. The feed store called us and we jumped on the chance.

They are mostly production reds that we were happy to get because the number of people wanting our eggs has grown and we have been hard pressed to keep up with the requests. Having new hens at the point of lay will be quite a help to us.

I was horrified to see that they had been debeaked! I literally went around with a lump in my throat wanting to cry. They were so happy to be out of the little cages they were in. I know they hadn't ever had the chance to dust bathe or anything remotely chicken like. They are VERY happy now!

In the number of pullets we picked up there were three that the feed store told us were "yellow" ameraucanas. Never heard of those so I thought I'd post a few pic's and see what the general consensus is in regards to what kind they are. Perhaps they are just mutts?

One is mostly white with some black, another is the same, but has even more black, and the last one has quite a bit of gold on her. They are definitely some sort of ameraucana-ish birds. I wonder if calling them yellow ameraucana's is about egg color because they don't seem yellow to me. (One of our ameraucana's we already have lays yellowish eggs with speckles on them.)

Has anyone ever seen Ameraucana's like these?

Pdsavage, thanks for your post. Easter Egger is what I meant. I definitely know they aren't anything but mutts. I just hadn't ever seen any that looked like this. I sort of wondered if they were a leghorn/EE cross.

The feedstore where we got them called them "yellow Ameraucana's".

I'd love to see a picture of yours!

You mean the feedstore people.......LIE????? (Gasp, Say it's not so!)

Columbian Easter Eggers is good. But why not Eastern European Easter Eggers, then they'd be EEEE's!!!

Tailfeathers-thank you for the links.

Thanks everyone!

The folks at feed stores sell feed . They don't breed chickens or hatch chickens they order them from hatcheries and sell them as they bought them. Don't blame them for them for mistaken identiy of chicks. I see this so often, people blaming someone at the feed store or local farm store because they were wrong about their chicks. Last spring I saw at a local farm store an empty bin marked white silkies and a full bin marked assorted bantams that was full of little white silkies. . I heard one of the employees remark to a customer she hoped they would get in the silkies soon because a friend was wanting some. I showed the employee that the assorted bantams were all white silkies. They were probably mismarked at the hatchery. Being able to stack bags of feed doesn't make a person an expert in poultry genetics.

Old Rando-that's a good point. I was really just joking around. I love our local feedstore, the people who own it are wonderful.

In this case they actually had a chicken and egg outfit that they closed down recently. I really think they called the birds what they "thought" they were!

We knew the other birds were production reds and that these "ameraucana like" birds are probably just the equivilent to them. They didn't try to sell them as anything "special." They were just part of this group they wanted to sell.

I posted because I was curious about the coloring, I hadn't ever seen any birds colored like that. Besides their snub noses (that took a while to get used to) I think they are beautiful.

Sorry if it sounded like I was "blaming" the feedstore for anything. If you reread my original post you'll see I reported what they told me they were. I thought maybe there was another name for this color.

I am not very well educated about ameraucana's-I thought they were all a sort of mixed offshoot of the araucana. Gotta sit and read the links that Tailfeathers sent me!
