We are, well I am always taking in unwanted hunting dogs and hubby has gotten as bad as I am. He wants to them for hunting though, and my dogs well the most they hunt is the couch lol.

As anyone that has ever listened to me for 5 minutes knows I have Charlie the irish wolfhound. My SO has Jake the border collie. I was hoping that all of Charlie's good traits would rub off on Jake, but it didn't happen. He's still as brainless as ever.
P.S. Nevermind the responses about how smart border collies are. Jake has plenty of smarts, he just refuses to use them.

lol

I am horrible with it. Hubby does competion coon hunts and some of the guys change dogs all the time. If they have a really bad night they will be looking for someone back at the club to take the dog cause they wont take it home. Hubby lost three really good dogs this fall/ winter which broke my heart. One fell and broke her neck, one lost her battle with cancer that she had been fighting for almost 4 years. And the third was exstremly sick when we got him. All the meds in the world couldn't save him. I felt so bad, I can't understand how some people can be such bad pet parents to let a dog get that sick and then just give it away to get rid of it.

My biggest weakness is beagles though and strays. I bring them home feed them ect. Put them in the paper as found for about two weeks and then if no one claims them I keep them. My last stray just died last fall. He was really thin beagle when I picked him up draging a chain through the woods by our house. But atleast he had a good home for a few years

I am so sorry. I love beagles with a passion. My favorite breeds are beagles, pitbulls, and chow chows. I know how it feels to loose a loved animal. At least you showed love and care. I hate how people reject an animal or throw them outside thinking they will survive. You are very generous for what you do

Here's my canine menagerie, past and present.

Scarlett was my first dog. I got her from the pound, but only had her 4 weeks

I left her in the care of someone I shouldn't have, and she got hit by a car. She was a Black and Tan Coonhound.

Kodiak is my second dog. My roommates got her for me after Scarlett had to be put to sleep. I picked her out at the pound when she was 13 weeks old, after I swore i'd never have another hound that wouldn't come back. She is Black Lab/Golden Retriever, and a SAR dog. She is just great, if a little loopy.

I got Ladybird 2 weeks after I adopted Kodiak (and swore i'd never have another hound). She and I met through a strange series of coincidences. The pound where I had adopted Scarlett from called and said they had her. I told them they didn't and she had died, but they had a dog so much like her they wanted proof that I had had her put to sleep. I went in, and wanted to see the other dog out of curiosity. They were so alike, and I was still so upset over losing Scarlett that I thought maybe i'd been given a second chance with her. Unfortunately that dog died in the pound before her waiting period was up, and I didn't find out until I went to bail her out. I was in tears, as was the ACO, and she told me she had another dog that wasn't in the best shape but she thought I would like her. She brought Ladybird out and it was all over. Ladybird manipulated me into taking her home, just like she trained me every day of her life after that. She was also a SAR dog. She passed suddenly in September from a twisted gut, and it broke my heart. She was full of personality, and liked nothing better than to make strangers fall in love with her. She was a Bloodhound.

Woodrow is my husband's dog. He is a Black Mouth Cur/Mountain Cur mix. He likes to go to work with his dad, and if he gets left behind he takes it out on me all day long! He loves to sing the FSU fight song, work cattle, and hunt rabbits.

Ruger was another pound dog, and I adopted him with the intention of rehoming him. He was in the pound from 4 months old until he was 8 months, and he had one day left. I scraped together the $15 to bail him out, most of which was change from the back of the sofa, and went hungry for a couple of days. He is a German Shorthaired Pointer. I've had him a year and he is still coming out of his shell, but he is a good bird dog and loves to run after all that time cooped up. He also loves to sing. He is very gentle and kind, and Penny's favourite uncle.

Penny (Miss Moneypenny) is the latest addition. She is a Bloodhound too, and is doing great in SAR training. She is just as stubborn as Ladybird was, but very affectionate and just too cute. She just turned 6 months old, and weighs 65lbs!

Cara- OMG they are soo cute. Hubby has been on my butt to get one of those Mountain Curs I havent really seen too many of them around here. My Hank looks like a big black and tan with a white patch on his chest and white toes. And Sam Bo looks like a walker. I just love hound dogs. They are so very loveable, some times alittle empty between the ears (mostly Sam) but you can't beat them.
